Pre Party Crew
Christian, Me, Beth, Tom, Jack, Harriet, Emma, !! soooo its been a while! i am firstly going to make a huge great apology for being soo very bad at keeping my travelblog up to date! but i guess all that counts is that i am having a good time.. right?
soo i headed out of Koh Phi Phi back across to Koh Phangnan where all i did was drink and party- there is absolutely no point me trying to pretend i did anything else as it was the full moon party and that is all that you can do during the 3 days that it is on.
Anyways i left Thailand via the south eastern train track into Malaysia- now this bit of track is v. dangerous and lonely planet etc. strongly advise not to use it, soo me being me assumed that it would be a bit of an adventure- plus it seemed to fit in with my travel plans a lot better than going elsewhere to avoid the terrorist threats etc!!
Bit weird towards the far south as is militia run and a lot of people with guns hanging around!
So i got to Malaysia and headed straight to the Perenthian Islands where i chilled for a
Full moon
the pre party- and all my friends few days with absolutely no money at all due to me not paying attention to the fact that there are no atms on the island at all!! oppsy- v. beatuiful though and i did manage to get free accommodation because i just left without paying- and yes i know it was the wrong thing to do but i did get bed bugs so some how the guilt was lifted! o and also when we were leaving the island in the 'high speed boat' it started to sink because it was overloaded and was diving through waves so we all had to sit on people laps to try and get the weight to the back of the boat- it was sooo funny!! real eye opener into the health and safety of poorer countries@@
Headed from the Islands across to the Taman Negara National park which was amazingly awe inspiring and it is after all the oldest indigenous rain forest in the world- or something like that (sorry but it was a v. long time ago after all)
Spent 3 days walking around in the rain forest and had a great time with Tuuli, Colin, Retto and some other random travelers that
Moi
UV face paint at the Full Moon parteeeey! i met along the way and i had an absolutely awesome time- especially when we went on the longest canopy walk in the world- real cool to actually walk in the tree tops!
I then decided that to save myself some serious dough i would try my hand at hitch hiking- i also didn't have a lot of choice as i had no money and had decided to get the train myself rather than buying a package- unfortunately this time they weren't lying when they told me there was no other transport from the train to the Cameron Highlands- sometimes it is better to take the package deals- bugger!
anyway i started to hitch the 800km between Taman Negara and the Cameron Highlands, (not sure of real distance but it did seem a long long way!) and my first lift came in the form of a taxi- strange but i actually hitched a lift with a taxi, he was on his way home!- i think this really sums up how different their culture is to ours.
So the taxi driver took me about 10km and pointed me in the right direction and off i walked.... for about 2 hours then
a car pulled over and a very nice family told me they could take me half the distance so i hop in and after about an hour of q and a's the drive pulls over gets out and starts to signal a lorry to pull over and after a brief exchange in Malaysian i am being loaded into a lorry apparently with the same destination as me! Now this is were things would have gone wrong if they were going to.. neither of the guys in the front spoke English and as you may be aware my Malay inst too fluent either, number two problem although i new it was a bad idea i couldn't help but fall asleep, number three i didn't really have a clue where i was headed and number four the guy next to me smelt really bad!!!
but anyway a few hours later and they wake me up to let me know i am at my stop, soo i thank them both and get out with all my stuff still there so a great success! i then have to get a taxi to the next town because they have dropped me off just short of
the town- but hey beggars cant be choosers! the only taxi i can find is an ancient old American beast of a thing with the Malaysian equivalent of Tommy Cooper driving it- try and get ya imagination round that!
Turn up to my hostel just in time to settle down and watch the rugby on the tv in the hostel nice and convenient other than it starts at about 4 am!!!
I spent the next 3 days looking around the tea plantations and at the insect farms etc. and having a generally lovely time. I then catch a bus from here straight into the big ctiy that is Kuala Lumpur.
Well Kuala Lumpur truly is an amazing place and the food is to die for- especially as i was staying in china town.... and the market was awesome so i bougtt a few things like shorts and dvds etc which all cost about the same as a chocolate bar in england!!
While i was there i went to the aviary which is supposedly the biggest in the world and it was great you atually walk in the enclosures with the birds- it really is quite strange!
I then got an
all day bus from KL to Singapore which was also a truly amazing place- is soo strange that the country is the city- you really have to see it for yourself though it is soo clean and a really good set up!- the underground tells you when the next train is arriving in seconds..!!
While i was in Singapore i went to Singapore zoo which was truly amazing and all the animals are separated by natural barriers- hedges, rivers etc and it is really well set up. While i was in Singapore i also gave it my best to get the rugby put on in the world famous raffles hotel- to no great success- in fact i was escorted out due to being in thongs and a rugby shirt- apparently not the clientèle they are used to!!
I then flew to the lovely Oz and my god it was cold and expensive.....
