London, Singapore
So we finally left south America behind, departing from Rio at one of the smallest international airports we have seen! Bizarrely, there was no bar (!) but we found a beer and sat to play El Presidente with Ben and Doogie one last time... We also pondered how on earth this tiny airport will cope with not only the world cup in 2014 but the Olympics two years later! Brazil has a lot of work to do me thinks, especially stamping down on those poxy street robbers! Before we departed there was a gang of screaming girls in the check in area and we looked to see someone famous being screamed at... He was gorgeous but we had no idea who he was other than he was a yank. We eventually found out that he was the handsome guy from vampire diaries who had a huge teenage girl following. Tash spoke to him, as you would, and he seemed really nice and not at all troubled by his legion of girlie fans. So we arrived in London! Home, albeit for just 24 hours. We got to Amanda's by train and started organizing our bags to get rid of
trekking and cold weather gear and pack up sunshine clothes! We had some lovely dins and wine and crashed. Next day we headed up to st Albans for a bit of shopping and then to Amanda's mum's house to pick up more clothes we had left there. It was a lovely day seeing den, Kel, Amanda and Selma, del and lovely Amelie! Sorry to those we couldn't see... Time was against us. We eventually got back to London, said bye and thanks to Amanda and Susie and got the train to heathrow again. Tash was not feeling too well for some reason and we had to get off the tube as she felt sick. We managed to get back on and get to Acton before she shot up and ran off the tube just before the doors closed and promptly vomited on the platform... Tracy was left in the departing tube with two heavy back packs and two small day packs... Shit!!! Tash finally got rid of what was bothering her and set off for heathrow hoping to find Tracy! We eventually met up at heathrow with poor tracy trying to carry all of the bags- a combined weight of
Marina Bay Sands
Huge hotel with boat on top containing a club, bar and pool! about 50kg.. we got on the flight which was rather empty and bagged 4 seats each so we both managed to lay down and sleep which was needed as Tash was still feeling awful... Missed the in flight drinks and food too which must have meant she felt really bad! As Singapore approached, Tash felt better and was ready for part two of the adventure! Singapore We arrived into a huge and beautiful airport. We had both been here before but didn't recall how serene this place was. We jumped in a cab to take us to The Sail in Marina Bay where we where staying with one of Tasha's old rugby mates who lives and works here - the legend that is sue Mac! Marina bay was stunning with a backdrop of the marina bay sands complex which was three huge tower blocks with what looks like a boat perched on top.. It also housed a shopping mall, casino, hotel and restaurants. We met up with sue who was heading off to Orlando that night and she kindly showed us around her lovely apartment (complete with pool, gym, aqua gym, jacuzzi) and then had some drinks on the harbor
side. Stunning! It can only be described as a ultra modern, stylish version of canary wharf.. So clean and perfect! We slept so well and then headed out to the local hawkers market to find food and we had delicious noodles with fresh juice. Yum! We were looking forward to as much Thai food as possible. We jumped on a tour bus to see the city and stopped off at Raffles to have a Singapore sling in the Long bar.. A must when in singers! There is a video of us in there on Facebook if u want to see what we were up to. We then headed to little India which is exactly what it is... Beautiful smells, colors and food all over. We also went to the electronics mall to buy a new camera as Tasha's one was getting too slow and on its last legs! We got a bargain on a lovely new digital lumix and set about learning how to use it. We then headed to marina bay sands and wondered about in the massive mall, ate food and watched the amazing water fountain/laser show.. Images were projected onto the spray of the water and it
was just stunning! Hundreds of people watch this every day - can see why! We watched some kids fly remote controlled kites with bright LEDs on the tail and then headed up to the boat on the roof where there was a pool, nightclub and bar. The views were amazing and the place was stunning. Expensive too, so as tired as we were, there was no way we weren't going to finish our bottle of wine no matter how shattered we were! We slept for hours next day and got up late afternoon courtesy of jet lag and our bodies not having a clue what time zone we were supposed to be in! We headed for china town, ate some yummy Chinese street food and had a massage. Trace had shoulders which she didnt like and tash unsurprisingly had a foot massage which she loved!! We then went to the quayside to find a bar which would show the England v south Africa game. We found it and had beers, wine and a shisha pipe whilst watching England gallantly lose. We also met a nice south African guy who chatted to trace at length about project management - something she
is keen to look into and he gave her some valuable advice and an almost offer of a job! Would have been great except for the fact that it was on an oil rig in Singapore working 6 months on and 6 months off... Not bad I thought! Next day we packed up at sues place and again caught a bus by the skin of our teeth... It had to wait for us! Embarrassing!!! Anyway, it was a lovely bus and we watched the film ' one day'... Jesus.. Wish we hadn't as Tracy just couldn't stop crying... She was a bit embarrassed bless her but managed to stop the tears just before arriving in kuala lumpar six hours later!! Dont watch it if feeling a tad emotional..it is brutal. Singers was great - Tash says she could easily live there... So maybe one day...
