Hiya - well this is what happened on day 2 in Singaporel.
Decided to go to Sentosa Island with Saskia. After a great sleep - a full 9hours, even with the noisy air conditioning on and no black out blinds. See dad my tolerance levels are improving already ha ha!!! I skipped breakfast even though it was a complimentary breakfast and should cost $18 and stayed in bed. We had arranged to meet at 12.30 at the harbourfront food court as this is where Ray (one of the Americans) had told us to meet. I had no charger for my mobile (forgot it dohhhhh!!!) so we arranged just to meet there. You would think that was easy, well...........as there are lots of different exits from the trains she was in completely the wrong place and it was sooooo busy too. The train station and sky train were in a massive shopping centre. As I was walking through couldn't believe they had Topshop, River Island, La Senza, Marks & Spencer etc etc. Anyway, luckily I had her mobile number written down and tried to call her from a phonebox!!! Couldnt get through as I was dialling a dutch mobile I had no
idea what the code was and couldn't seem to get hold of anyone to help. So I am stood there for over 40 mins thinking I had lost my only friend and started to get sad :-( So I decided to go and buy a phone charger. I found somewhere to charge it and phoned her. Thankfully I got hold of a frantic Saskia and then we eventually found each other and were on our way!!!!!
Sentosa is like a holiday island and with loads of visitor attractions for tourists and Singapore people too. You get to it via a monorail type train or a cable car. We took the cheaper option on the skytrain!!! We got a deal for $37 for return journey and some inclusive trips too. It included a visit to the Merlion which is Singapore's symbol of the city, you go to the top of it's mouth and have your pic taken, boring really. They only have lifts though but we didn't complain!! The Singapore tower, which is a revolving tower with great views of the skyline. I didn't realise how big of a port it is, it's massive, loads of container ships were scattered all
around us and it looked quite pretty in a strange way. We also had a pass for the Luge which is a 700m of concrete slopes with plastic sledges that you go down which are on wheels!!! This was my favourite, although we had to wear helmets and in the heat that was very very sweaty - eurgghhhhhhh!!! It was so funny though, I have bought the picture, I will try and scan and add it. They were not really fast, however as you are so low on the ground, it feels a lot faster and a bit scary sometimes. Need to find out where I can do this on Ice!!!!!!!
This is the link though.
http://www.sentosa.com.sg/explore_sentosa/attractions/sentosa_luge.html. We also did the skyride too!!
The pass also included a visit to the butterfly kingdom too. I had no camera for any of this as my battery had died!!! and so had Saskias which was a bugger cos it was a really good place and we seen some amazing butterflies. The insects I weren't too bothered about though, however as we walked in there was a great big glass case of cockroaches from Australia, all different colours and types -
Not nice. Just what we both wanted to see as we head out to Oz!! and some insects from Asia etc that were as big as your hands and feet, seriously. Hope I don't see any of those on my travels!!! Don't think the mosquito spray would keep those buggers away! I seen cocoons of butterflies all at different stages, that was quite interesting, they have to pick them out and hang them up individually in a glass case to change to butterflies as they get stressed and don't come out with all the people around. Then they have to dry out for ages before they can fly. I found this really interesting - I need re-educating!!! Forgot all this from school.
Anyway a bargain day for $37
Saskia had to leave for her flight to Darwin just after we left Sentosa so I went and ate across the road from my hotel and had prawn dumplings, yum yum and a large Tiger Beer. My first beer in Singapore. Not drank here really, it is so expensive here for alcohol.
Need a new camera so that's the plan for tomorrow and a trip to the post office to get rid
of some Kg's from my bag!!!!! All on my own now :-(
booo!!!!

your a explorer!
Jane's first day exploring what singapore has to offer - well done! Your a explorer now - i am very proud! I'm liking being able to keep up with what you are up to, but as i suspected already not organised - phone and camera as dead as a dead nail! typical! Going to post office to drop off weight! Sorry to hear you lost your friend - but there will be plenty of others! You may catch up with her in Darwin when you get there! Not sure if it is just me looking at the picture wrong - but the skyride looks like just ropes you all dangle off to get from a to b. i couldn't see any cabins? Is this a unusual way that singapores travel - dangling from ropes? Carrying on the good work of keeping us all updated. And more importantly enjoy yourself. Take care Deb x
