Answers to Question 12 - As you wade in the water when shrimping, you look for tell-tale flashes of the colour red. Bonus - Picture 3 of the last blog represented Sand Collars, produced by Sea Snails or Moon Snails The snail's eggs are attached on the underside of the collar. The snail lies in the centre of the collar as she creates it so the hole in the middle gives an indication of the size of the mother snail. Although the collar can appear dead and plasticky, it is very much alive and can contain thousands of living eggs. When the eggs hatch, the collar disintegrates. (Source: Telunas reference book). Question 13 Check out these adverts seen on the MRT. What do they advertise? Pic 1 - 1 point (clue: it's not a business but a stage) Pics 2 - 1 point Bonus - 1 point In a restaurant, what did we order for Julia to get this (Pic 3) brought over? FOOD - FOOD - FOOD
We've had gorgeous food since we arrived in Singapore. At first, I couldn't get enough of Asian cuisine, Food Courts, Japanese Restaurants, Dim Sum places. It's still the case, but I do now also sometimes go for a sandwich or a western style salad.
That's also because Melinda cooks the most amazing Asian dishes (Pics 4) so we have the best of both worlds. QUESTION to everyone reading this blog - As per Linett's suggestion, I am toying with the idea of helping Melinda write her own Recipe Book. If we did this, would you be interested in buying a copy? Don't worry, it won't cost S$50...! QUESTION a tout ceux qui lisent ce blog: L'idee d'aider Melinda a ecrire son Livre de Recettes me trotte dans la tete. Si nous en faisions un, seriez vous peutetre interesses a l'acheter? I love the fact that every food court or Asian restaurant displays a picture of the dishes either on their menu or on a board above the counter (Pics 5). It's so helpful! But at times, the pictures are so dated or faded that it puts you off something which might actually be extremely tasty. What does amaze me are the restaurants who go through all the trouble of making up life-like plastic models of the food they serve (Pics 6). And not for just one or two dishes, dozens of them!
Food advertising is also big business (Pics 7). Except for the Delifrance one, where I really think the faded side of the lorry and the old fashion photos do nothing to entice me to rush to Delifrance. The restaurant advertising in the lift though I think is so cool. So well done! That's in Orchard Central mall. Then come the fruit displays in markets or food courts (Pics 8). And let's not forget being invited for High Tea at Victoria's house (Pics 9)! All this to say that between the pregnancy weight and the move to Singapore, I haven't done a very good job of shedding any weight. Back in the UK, I had managed to give up on pasta, only to replace it here with rice. My biggest downfall apart from rice is bread and croissants - given the choice. Fruit juices are also a regular in my diet.
Hence me embarking on the South Beach Diet, where Phase 1 lasts 2 weeks. So far, I can report a 3kg loss and I am chuffed to bits! I have a long way to go, another 12kg, but it's something I must do now to avoid the feet, knees and back problems that have been troubling me the last few months.
For those not familiar with the South Beach Diet, it consists of 3 phases.
Phase 1 is the strictest phase of the diet and lasts 2 weeks - just long enough to resolve the insulin resistance brought about by eating too many processed carbs. I don't need to measure what I eat in weight or calories. I can eat normal size portions, enough to satisfy my hunger and no more.
Phase 2 lasts until I've reached my target weight. From now on, i start reintroducing certain healthy carbs like fruit, whole grain bread, whole grain rice, whole wheat pasta, sweet potatoes, into my diet. But this will slow my weight loss so I may stick to a mix between these two phases.
Phase 3 is the most liberal stage of the diet and the way I will eat forever. By then, it'll be more a healthy lifestyle than a diet.
Of course, the food is the start and the main part. I'll also add more and more exercise into the mix as I move forward. I'll let you know my progress of course!
:-) xx
