Art in Sentosa Island
Reminded me of Gaudi's park in Barcelona. So pretty and colourful and unusual. Wednesday 13 January to Friday 15 January 2010
Technically speaking we only really had a full day in Singapore as we arrived late on Wednesday and left early on Friday - however what an action packed day it was!
After checking in to the nicest apartment in Little India and having a really good nights rest we set off early morning to catch the morning aarti (hindu prayers) in the local mandirs. We visited the Sri Mariamman Temple, Sri Vairavimada Kaliamman Temple and the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple all very beautiful and colourful mandirs and we were lucky enough to join the morning aarti at one of them.
It felt really weird being in Singapore, in particular staying in Little India because it felt like Leicester almost. We ate the best indian food there for dinner when we arrived which was really cheap and the main street consisted of loads of little indian shops, resturants and temples. Gave the place a really different feel - felt quite homely actually.
Next we purchased a subway day pass and headed off for the inner city. Now we all know Singapore is known for being really clean and pristine and
Songs of the Sea
Water, light and fire show which me and Narj were extremely impressed with. after seeing it for myself I would have to agree. You're not allowed to drink or eat when using the underground trains or in the station vicinity. Now try holding a bottle of water in your hand whilst travelling using the system and NOT drinking - I found this extremely difficult. Even with acknowledging this restriction I still without thinking drank twice on the underground by accident. I wondered why people were giving me funny glances when I was on the train. On one of the occassions a train guard kinda stopped me just as I was about to open my bottle. I really don't understand why I found the rule so difficult to abide - although I guess it didnt help having a bottle of water in my hand, but I wanted to keep hydrated as it was so hot!
We saw the fountain of wealth which is said to have been designed with perfect feng shui. Then we did some shopping by accident, well it was more my fault than Narj's as I got a little carried away in the shopping mall which we had to walk through. Good job Narj was with me otherwise I doubt
I would have pulled myself away (lol). And wow, shopping felt so amazing after such a long time and it was good. Just felt like buying everything as I found Singapore very stylish and not too pricey and I had no problem with sizes. .
The Singapore Flyer was one of my highlights there! I've not been on the London Eye yet so I had nothing to compare it to so I was thoroughly impressed (Narj said it was much better than the London Eye as she has been on it 3 times). We had a whole pod to ourselves and they were huge, really spacious. From 165metres the view of Singapore was amazing! Given that we've been up a lot of towers and structures up to now, I'd say this was one of the best.
In the evening we visited Sentosa Island which was a short train journey away. First we went did a 4D wild-west experience which wasn't that great in my opinion, however it was completely worth watching Narj throughout the ride. I remember experiencing a similar type of ride in Disneyland Florida which was really good
so I kinda knew what to expect. Narj on the otherhand didnt and she screamed sooooo much - it was so entertaining. At one point she grabbed onto my arm asking me what to expect next (lol) - bless!
The Songs of the Sea show was my second highlight - which was amazing!!! Its so not just a kids show - because we loved it. I kinda don't want to spoil it for those that may go there at some point, so I won't expand on details. But I can say it was the best water, fire and light show I have seen ever!
Overall I really enjoyed my time in Singapore and wished I had longer there to shop mainly and maybe explore Sentosa Island a bit more. It is a very cosmopolitian and multi-cultured city which I liked and all the public toilets smelt so good almost like nice perfume all the time (very impressive). Leaving for Australia felt really sad - purely because that was South East Asia, over 😞 Really couldn't believe how fast time had flown by and now we're moving on to a different continent....
