My plane to Doha
My plane to Doha. I thought I would be a bit more efficient in keeping this blog but obviously not! I'm in Singapore now, arrived here Saturday afternoon. It's rather hot! I'll start from the beginning.
Left the UK very eary Friday morning, got the 9am plane. It was very nice, had tv's in the headrests so you can guess what I did all journey! Landed at Doha after 7 hours where I had a 7 hour wait until by next plane to Singapore. That was too long, I was very tired and there wasn't much do. There were a few shops/places you eat, but you can't spend 7 hours looking at them! So boarded that flight to Singapore which was 7 hours. That flight wasn't as comfortable, nothing to do with the plane, I was just very tired with a headache so slept most of it.
Arrived in Singapore around 3pm. I had heard the airport was amazing and was not disappointed. It was so calm and peaceful and really clean! When I was waiting for my luggage the were these plants on the walls and above and mist came down from then, which was very refreshing! I was going to get
Christmas lights on Orchard Road
Christmas lights on Orchard Road the MRT (underground train) to my hostel but the guy I sat next to on the plane called Robert (in the US military) asked if I wanted to share a taxi, so did that. I am staying in Little India one of the areas in Singapore, it is right next to the MRT station which is very handy! Hostel is nice with free internet and breakfast which is good.
That evening we got some food then caught the MRT to Orchard Road. This is the shopping road, the road that has all the designer shops etc. It was very busy! The Christmas lights there were amazing! The theme was 'Christmas in the tropics'. I have a few pictures I will put up later. The lights seemed to be decorated with sweets hanging off the lights! Caught the last train back. The MRT is very good, it is so easy to use, trains come often and on time. Slept badly that night, whether it was jet lag or the fact that the 3 girls in my room got in at 5.30am then had the light on for ages I don't know! But either way I didn't hear my alarm and
woke up at 12.20pm!
So that day (Sunday) I decided there was no way I was walking in this heat (when we were getting off the plane they informed us it was 34 degrees!) so caught the MRT to Marina Bay where there is a huge shopping centre called Vivo City. I had decided that being somewhere with air-con was most important! The place is huge! After walking there for a couple of hours went outside where got chatting to two lads from here and Jakata.
Eventually left there and went to Clarke Quay. It is along the river and is lined with many many restaurants. The shopping centre there (seeing a pattern here?) had a little ice rink where there were performances at certains times of the day and it just happened the next one was quite close at 7pm so stayed for that. Was very good, we even had skating slinkies and a women skating with stilts on! I have a little video I shall attempt to put up later. Ths shopping centre was like a maze, looks small when you get in but then you go down a little bit and there is this huge
other section! I attempted my first non-English food here with not very good results. Got roasted chicken noodles for $3.50 which is about 1 pound 50. Very nice but could not work out how to eat the noodles without looking stupid! Everyone was looking at me! Gave up in the end, I shall try again another meal!
Clarke Quay is really pretty especially at night with the bridge, the river bank and nearly everything lit with lights. There was an inside bit with this fountain in the middle and a guy playing the bagpipes (not in the fountain!), I wanted to run through it, but I managed to restrain myself! Whilst sitting on the bank, just taking in the atmosphere (as you do!) this guy who lives here started chatting to me for ages. Don't know what it is, maybe I just look approachable!?
So now it is Monday morning, going to go to the botanic gardens (if I can find them) and then explore the area around Raffles. I apologise for the detail of this blog, they won't all be like this! Hope everyone's ok at home, I hear it is very cold! Have the opposite problem
here!
