(Sigue bajando para leer en Espaňol) ENGLISH Departure from London - Heathrow on the 22nd of Feb 2010 at 11.55 am to arrive to Changi International Airport on the 23rd Feb 2010 at 08.00 am after 12h 55 min. I did not realized of the free feet massage machines around the airport, Irene (Lisi's friend in Singapore) told me later. I stayed at her place during my stance in Singapore.
It is a beautiful city, clean and safe. As Irene and Fran (Irene's boyfriend) say is 'Asia for beginners'. It reminds me of Dubai (although I have never been there).
I stayed in his house for 3 days, to start the trip in an amazing way (thank you for everything). Feet and shoulder massage just after landing, quite painful at first but quite relaxing after all. Called grandma to say happy birthday (83 years old).
On the 24th meeting with Esther and Laura who were arriving from Bali, really tanned them both and Laura not feeling 100%!,(MISSING) slightly sick. First attempt to go to Melaka
(Malaysia) on Thursday 25th Feb but we could not meet each other in the station, firstly because I arrived extremely late, sorry for that, and secondly because Laura was feeling poorly. They sent me an email to let me know but I did not see it until I got home, despite Esther's efforts to go back to station to let me know, but we kept missing each other.
Swimming pool and jacuzzi just for myself at Irene & Fran's condominium.
Friday the 25th in the bus to Melaka trying to get money as they did not accept cards and we were a bit short.
I 100%!r(MISSING)ecommend a visit to Singapore.
Culture and curiosities The official language is English, but they speak a mixture between Singaporean and English called 'Singlish' that I was seriously unable to understand. 7 years in London, what for? They also speak Tamil, Chinese and Tamil.
7 million people in 692 km². GDP per capita 53,200 US $.
In Dec 2010 was only a 2.1 %!u(MISSING)nemployed.
The government is a Republic with a Prime Minister that it actually works as a dictatorial government that a family successor takes over
(or that is what I was told).
Rape, drug traffic and assassination is condemned with death penalty. Stealing is condemned with life sentence therefore if you forget your bag with lots of money in, someone will look for you to give it back.
The military service is a good chance to reunite with your friends as you complete the months you need to do and then you should complete1 month a year until your are 65.
The cars are really expensive and you should pay a registration fee of 100%. The cars are always clean as the price of the petrol includes a 'quick wash'. It is easy to see Maserati and Lamborghini cars. The driving license costs around 6.000 euros (Samia imagine). There is also congestion charge but with more zones than in London. Renting a car costs you around 500 euros per month.
The orchid, Joaquin Banda, is the national flower of Singapore and the Merlion is the national monument (half mermaid & half lion).
It is forbidden to spit, throw chewing gums and buds on the street. A fine will be applied. You can have a flag of Singapore in the window
but it should be clean, otherwise you will be fined.
The inauguration of a new casino is planned in April 2010, it will be the largest in the world and gamblers will not be allowed in the country.
The buildings are builded with the Feng Shui philosophy, with the main entrace facing the sea and a garden in one of the floors.
You can see a Buddhist temple and next to it a Hindu one or a Mosque or a Catholic church.
Places to see Take a walk around China Town and visit the Relique of Budhas' tooth Temple. Try the delicious bamboo cakes outside the temple square.
Another walk through Little India, not as clean as the rest of Singapore, and visit the Sri Mariamman Hindu temple. Unfortunately it is undergoing refurbishment works at present and therefore it was difficult to see much of its beauty.
Clarke Quay is the party area, with some peculiar bars but not really cheap.
Orchard street is the equivalent to Regent's street, with thousands of different boutique brands, just for you to imagine how much money there is in the country.
Marina Bay where you
can see the Merlion, the Cassino, the skylight and the Flyer (similar to the London Eye but bigger). I would recommend to see it at night time.
Food Noodles and duck at Chinatown for 10 SGP $. Dinner at The banana leaf Apolo in Little India. Chicken Tandori for 15 SGP $ where the plate is a leaf of banana plant.
do not forget to try the bamboo cakes.
Try 'Bubble tea' ice tea with or without milk and Tapioca bubbles. It is very sweet (Natxo you would love it).
Transport MRT = Tube where you can buy a single ticket and I think they will refund you some deposit when you give the ticket back and you can also buy the Ez-Link top up card, it costs 7 SGP $ plus topping up (minimum 10 SGP $). You can use in the bus and tube, similar to the Oyster card.
Bus to Melaka, 20 SGP $ from Lavander station.
Hostels The cheapest ones cost around 20 SGP $ in Little India. The air-con is on so make sure you have enough cloth to keep warm.
Renta per capita de 53.200 US $
A mi me gusto mucho.
