Donc on a chanter pour enterre ... read more

My wife and I visit Cebu at least once a year in celebration of our wedding anniversary, but this time around we traveled to be at my sister-in-law's wedding. The first photo was taken the night before the big event in a bar along Mango Avenue. The second was just hours before our flight back to Manila in Ayala, Cebu Business Park while the last one was taken at an earlier date (our honeymoon actually) at The Vista Mar in Mactan, thanks to Aunt Liza Aznar.... read more

Sibuyan We would later understand that it was quite a unique thing to see Mount Guiting Guiting’s 2058-meter (6751 feet) peak. Clouds usually obliterate the view. But there was something special about that day. The waters were unusually choppy (2 - 3 meter / 6-9 feet swells), a flock of frolicking dolphins tracking the boat and then Guiting Guiting. A long concrete platform, which served as our dock, jutted out into the sea. No sooner had the boat pulled alongside it that scores of porters rushed aboard to bid for business. We inched down the stairwell and out into the brilliant sunshine of a Sibuyan midday. With more than 700 plant species, 130 bird species and numerous rare mammals and reptiles, Sibuyan was nature-lovers’ paradise. We settled in quickly, at a beachfront hotel, and took off ... read more

It was sad to leave Boracay, I could've spent all my time there as the people, the energy and the scenery were all world class. However I was excited to get moving to experience the rest of The Philippines. We're off on an adventure which will take us through a multi island province called The Visayas. Our first journey took us through the large island of Panay. Lining the roads past all the bamboo hut villages we saw 1000's of people, some in tradtional outfits waving the Filippino flag. Security was high and soldiers with machine guns were a common site. After about an hour of driving though this I saw a series of police vehicles followed by a convoy. We quickly realized it was the president of The Philippines, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The bus slowed down ... read more

Cebu was a surprise. I had my first couchsurf, and I my host was a lawyer who isn't as stiff as you'd expect him to be. He's very easy going and very flexible with who he could hang out and we had many great conversations. The second day I was there, we met with two more couchsurfers and went to a beach 2 hours from the city for a night. Moalboal beach, it was. We also went to a waterfall which was very developed for touritsts, with stone-walled swimming area, etc. It was still a lot of fun. It's nice to hook up with locals because they know the things to see and good places to eat. He also gave me good info on where to pick up some diving. I had a lasting memory in ... read more

The main point of me coming to this dilapidated town in Southern Luzon was that it stands at the foot of Mount Mayon. Translated as the 'Beautiful Mountain' it is dubbed the world's most perfect volcano due to its near symmetrical appearance. I had plans to climb it over a 2 day period. However, due to the fact that the volcano was at an activity level 2 (out of 5) and more so the torrential rain that was pounding the area, no company would allow me up for the trek. I decided to wait a day to see if the weather would pass and spent it looking at the limited sites the place had to offer. Yet it insisted on raining the next day too, so my trek up the volcano was well and truly kicked ... read more
