cocoloco 2008
rough seas at Roxas After our very intimate but fabulous wedding in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, we headed-off to Cocoloco Island in Roxas, Palawan for some rest and hmm, recreation 😊
Note: In the slightest chance you are interested (and if you need more travel information on Puerto Princesa), visit our wedding website here and check out our wedding pics here. We were supposed to cancel our booking because there were two typhoons in Manila and it was starting to rain quite heavily in Palawan, but were told that cancellation fee was 50%!((MISSING)to think we only booked the day before!) so we just decided to proceed.
For P300/person, a private van arranged by Cocoloco picked us up from our hotel in Puerto Princesa and after picking up a couple more passengers from the New Public Market, we proceeded to Roxas, Palawan. Roxas is a comfortable ride 2 hours north of Puerto Princesa. We slept through the ride and woke up just as we entered Roxas town.
It was raining quite heavily and we were shocked to see the rough waves of the Sulu Sea that we would be traversing to cross to Cocoloco Island. We’ve had quite a few people advising

our small boat! us not to push through with the trip because the seas in this part of Palawan could be quite rough even on regular days - we were told that on some days, the 40-minute boat ride could last up to two hours. But again - please refer to the 2nd paragraph above 😊 We were even more shocked to see our boat - as there were only two of us crossing to the island that day, they sent us their “small” boat (see pic). The boat only had room for 2 seating passengers.
Anyway, after much praying and crossing my fingers (about an hour actually), we landed safely on the island. Cocoloco Island welcomes Mr. and Mrs. Visitacion! 😊
As it was right about lunchtime, we were immediately served our welcome drink - fresh buko juice in shell with a red gumamela - and given a menu which we would browse again and again for the next couple of days. Reservations in the island came with full-board meals (excluding drinks which you pay for separately) and you order each meal ahead of time. For our first lunch, I had crabs in coconut milk (yum!!!) and Kim had grilled

welcome to Cocoloco :) liempo. The food was good and the servings more than enough for 1 person. All meals come with veggies and fruits for dessert. Coffee and tea are available throughout the day and are free 😊 So is mineral water.
After lunch, we just relaxed a bit in the dining hall which has a mini-library (unfortunately, it only had 2 books in English - all the rest were in German!), some board games, a pool table and cable TV (the only one in the island!). The front desk / office is also in this hall. Information on boat rentals, island-hopping and massage services, even Globe & Smart load are available here 😊
We got cottage number 7. All cottages are beachfront and it definitely would have been very lovely if only it was not raining the whole time we were there. The waters of Cocoloco are a cool emerald green deepening into turquoise as it gets farther out. The beach is fine white sand and the slope very gradual. There is a huge sand bar right in front of the dining hall. It was very inviting and superbly tempting but I had colds (from getting rained on in our

the mini german library hehe post-nup pictorial) and I don’t fancy getting really sick in the island so my suit never even got wet 😞 I actually had to keep on asking for cold medications from the front desk just to stop my runny nose (they didn’t charge us for it and I love them for it!).
The cottages are A-type nipa huts and are very basic: just a bed with a mosquito net, two pillows and 1 thin sheet, electric fan, a cabinet, a table with 2 chairs and a huge CR with running (salt)water. Each cottage has its own verandah with a small table and 2 chairs for lounging and a hammock. Electricity is provided by a genset from 6PM to 6AM.
There’s nothing much to do in Cocoloco when it’s raining. The winds howled while we had dinner and watched cable TV (thank you Dream Cable!!!). The next 2 days were the same. The only highlight of our stay was the food - we ordered all that we thought special for every meal and I pigged out on seafood 😊 I had crabs, shrimps, squid and they were all pretty good. My new hubby feasted on meat as he’s allergic

the dining hall to seafood. Breakfast is nothing fancy but it sure is good and homey and the serving more than enough for growing boys and girls 😊
I finished a quarter of the 4-inch thick novel I borrowed from their mini-library and Kim was able to return all the greetings we got on our wedding day through text and calls hehehe. The wonders of technology - full bars for Globe even in the stormiest of our stay! Sun Cellular, as usual, was useless. (Should I even wonder - it does not even work within the city limits of Puerto Princesa.)
All in all, our stay in Cocoloco was still well worth it even we got rained on. After all, that was what a honeymoon was for - good food, rest and bonding hehe 😊
On May 15, we headed back to Roxas town where the same van was waiting to bring us back to Puerto Princesa. In Puerto, we did a lot more last-minute stuff and in the afternoon, headed back to Manila.
See part 2 of our Honeymoon Adventures in the next blog (Batanes).
Travel Information You can go to Cocoloco via Puerto Princesa,
Palawan. Most travel agencies in Puerto Princesa accept bookings for the island. We arranged ours through our hotel (Liberty Park Pension). Price is P1700 / person / night inclusive of accommodations, all meals and boat transfers to and from the island.
