A relaxing week after arriving in Sandakan, Sabah . We visited the Orangutang's at Sepilock sanctuary we spent the whole day watching these wonderful creatures this was amazing. We wandered around rainforests canopy walks.
The Eco resort where we had booked into was very relaxing. Accommodation was in open aired bungalows with out side bathroom, mozzie nets over the bed we woke each morning to watch squirrels and tropical birds. It was very tranquil three days of relaxing and recharging. We then then travelled to Sandakan to spend our last few days in Borneo, we visited the war Memorial which was to commemorate the men that died in the death marches in the 2nd world war. Australian and British soldiers made to march from Sandakan to Ranua after being imprisoned in a prisoner war camp in Sandakan. The Japanese knew that they were going to be defeated so they made the men march through dense jungle as they knew they would never survive. Only six survived all Australian. It was very reflective morning. I watched a short movie about these men who lost their lives and those who survived. I couldn't help think how fortunate I was because my own father

View into the forest from our balcony had served in the British navy and was in Singapore when the Japanese surrendered. How lucky I was to have enjoyed my father life. On Friday we flew out of Borneo into Manilla, Philippines, Wow in your face Manilla the people are just lovely everyone has a smile for you. I didn't know what to expect as we had met a few travellers telling us that they were quite scared but we have a lovely apartment and everyone is just lovely. The streets are bustling with noise and the local jeepneys these are zooped up jeeps that were left by the Americans from the Second World War. Thousands of them, colourful and chromed. They are like a bus, taxi, tuk tuk very cheap fare, pick them up anywhere and drop off any were to just as long as your on the right route. The food is great too, they eat pork and lots of it we haven't eaten pork for 40 days as we have been in Muslim country's. We have purchased good bread and salads that we can make sandwiches too. We have walked through the streets of Manilla old and modern and felt very safe. Lots of poor people but

Side panel opened up onto views of the forest also quite effluent. There are security guards on nearly all the shops. Even Mc Donald's have an armed guard Any kid that misbehaves or is cheeky then they better watch out hahaha just joking. We have wandered down some very interesting street were the boys are girls and you can spend your money on what ever floats your boat a lot of lonely guys who are made happy with these Phillipino girls. We attended mass at the Greenbelt Catholic Church, which was packed out, the priest delivered such a wonderful service. He had his congregation eating out of the palm of his hand, worked the audience like a pro, We had a wonderful time, after the Mass had finished everyone applauded. The catholic religion is alive and kicking here in the Philippines. We have had a lovely few days here in Manilla I am a day late putting my blog out. It's Australian day today. We shall have to find some fellow Aussie to celebrate with. Two more days in Manilla before we start island hopping. Everyone have a great Australia Day until next week.
