The Manila Temple
This is the Temple for the LDS Church With Christmas getting closer traffic is getting worse
I forgot = Last night when we were watching TV a random chubby little girl without a shirt on appeared out of no where. She saw that they had visitors and was suddenly embarrassed about being half naked and covered her little chest with her hands. When one of the little boys came down she flashed them and laughed. She was really cute and funny and didn't listen to a word anyone said. She had to have been four or five years old.
This morning we had pancakes and bananas for breakfast. Phill bought the bananas from a street vendor. Phill speaks a language called Illongo but is pretty good at picking up Tagolog. The bananas here have a much more complex flavor and are more yellow. It was really good. I never realized how much I like american food until I came here though.
A man was walking down our street selling something called taho. I can't even describe how it is pronounced. He has two silver pots, one on each side of a stick he carries across his back. One pot has a flavorless custard in it and
Taho
A dessert you can buy out in the street the other side has tapioca and a thin caramel-like sauce. You run out into the street when he is yelling and he fills your glass and mixes it a bit. It is 10 pesos. We got some but it is kind of flavorless so phill added maple syrup. It was a fun experience though.
We used ate tenit's computer then hired a couple of pedicabs to take us to the bus stop. Pedicabs are bikes with a little side car welded on. They are pretty small so we had two for the four of us. Dad and Phill rode in one and the driver was struggling. Dad had to help push start them with his foot. It was fun because we didn't go far. We then caught a bus to the temple. It took us a bit of the way then we were going to walk the rest of the way but a random man with a van gave us a ride.
Now we are at the temple office trying to set an appointment for the wedding. They are being difficult though so it is taking a while. Im not sure what the problem is. Dad is being
Me in the Pedicab
These guys just wait around all day waiting for people who need a ride frustrated and impatient. I told hime to just let it go. He isn't. They don't like the fact that they are trying to plan this wedding so quickly. I've been able to take lots of pictures and I am excited to share them. We finally got everything set up at the temple. Getting home was a lot more difficult. We walked to the corner and went to a really cool store that sold wood furniture and decorations called Country Affair. I loved it. They had lots of tropical plants and little outdoor rooms that were very tranquil. I took lots of pictures for ideas. I would love to have a store or even a house like that.
We walked forever, no cabs wanted to pick us up because we were going the wrong direction. We walked a long way in the sun to a mall where we ate lunch at a shakey's pizza. They had really good service and always said 'excuse me sir' everytime they came to the table. We looked at a cake shop and then tried to find a taxi. We've had particularly bad luck with taxis. I wonder if it is because we are white.
On the bus
This is the one bus we took, it was pretty nice Chona said later it is because we want to go all the way to another city and the cab won't have a fare coming back to the city they are based in. It was really frustrating. Everyone tries to over charge us because we are foreigners. We finally got one and came home.
I decided to stay with the kids and eveyone else went back to the temple for Chona to go through for the first time. She has to do this before she can get married there. It was interesting watching the kids because they don't really speak english. The two older ones do a little bit but it is still hard for me to understand them. Carmen came home after a while so it was okay. They have a TV with cable to I watched Pimp My Ride and a movie called The Aunt Bully. The kids like Ant Bully. Liam and Josh became more comfortable with me and we are friends now. Liam sat on my lap and Josh likes to make faces and squeeze people's arms. After the movie they still werent back while the boys watched cartoons I read a bit and took a
The Country Affair
This is a great store nap. Carmen made dinner so I ate. It was rice with a sort of soup thing poured over the top. It had potatos, chicken, ginger, and spinach in it. It was good but I think it gave me sore guts. Nothing like a bit of filipino food to clean you out.
When they finally got home the boys seemed to explode with energy, showing off. It reminds me of Phill and Jon at that same age. I got really tired and came home. It's nice to have some time to write and read and unwind before bed. I like the name liam. The other day ate tenit gave us a roll with butter and cheese sprinkled on the top. It was kinda sweet. I don't know what kind of cheese it was but it was good.
