Sun 27th:
Came to Boracay, via Kalibo airport, a couple of hours later than we expected. We have a way of being booked on flights that are last minute delayed. Checked in at Dave's Straw Hat Inn, a highly recommended place to stay if you're thinking about going to Boracay. The cottages are great, modern and clean with warm water showers, cable TV, fan, air con and the staff are courteous and very personal and friendly. Went out to dinner along the beach, accompanied by some lady boys doing fire poi and singing rather dreadfully, haha.
Mon 28th:
Headed down to the dive shop "Water colors" first thing in the morning. Both Johan and I planned to do the Open Water Diving course, so we had to fill out some health insurance forms and since both of us have some positive answers we went up to the local medical center to consult a doctor, before passing for the course. Unfortunately I didn't pass, since I didn't bring my epilepsy medication on the vacation and had been without it for 10 days at the time. But Johan jumped on the course right away and started with an intro dive on shallow
water, while I was relaxing down at the beach.
Tue 29th:
I joined Johan, Kim and Rene (the german diving instructor) on the boat out to Angol Point and did some snorkeling for the first time. It was rather windy and the visibility wasn't very good so I only stayed in the water for 20 minutes.
Wed 30th:
Johan did his two last dives for the course and passed both his practical as well as theoretical exam (while I was, again, just hanging down the beach, swimming and reading AND buying a guitar from some non english speaking guy at the beach, haha), so after dinner we met up some of the guys from the dive center for Full Moon Party at Djungle Bar.
Thu 31st:
Woke up around noon, had a big breakfast, did some swimming and the strolled around D'mall for some shopping. I bought a dress for the evening since it was New Year's Eve. With a bottle of cheap champagne and a couple of beers we went down to the diver center around 8 PM and pre celebrated with the other guys, with some drinks, cheese and swedish pepparkakor (which Martin, the swedish
instructor, brought from Ikea in Hongkong where he usually lives). Around 9 we took a tricycle to White House Resort where Ethel, Martins filipino wife, had book a table for us. We had buffe and watched the fireworks along the beach, and after the block struck twelve Johan and I went to Bom Bom Bar, before we headed back home to the hotel.
Fri 1st:
Today's been kinda quiet and laid back, everyone seems either too hung over or too tired to do much. We're meeting up with Kim around 7PM for dinner, since it's her last night here.
Tomorrow, if it's not as windy as it is today, we're going up to Crocodile Island to do some more snorkeling. We're also planning on trying on jet ski while we're here, and maybe rent an ATV to see some more of the Island, before we head back to Sweden on the 5th.
