Source: http://www.smashinglists.com/weird-new-year-traditions/

Many countries have their own unique, strange ways of life or traditions. Even though the traditions are odd they do these traditions for a reason. For example, in Denmark people throw dishes in front of their neighbors' doors. This tradition is like a competition. The neighbor with the most dishes shows that they have loyal friends.

However, in the Philippines they have different strange traditions. For example, in the Philippines every year on New Years eve people wear polka dots. Philippines believe when they wear polk dots on New Years eve that they will have good fortune. In addition, they think that the polka dots link to coins and wealth.
