Opened for the trekkers recently in 1991, Manaslu circuit treklies between western and central Nepal. The trek runs for 177 kilometers, around mount Manaslu which is the 8th highest peak standing at 8156 meters above sea level. The trails in this trek were used as trading routes to the Tibet and were considered very tough. Now they are comparatively easier with improvement works. It passes along and crosses Budhi Gandaki river many times. Larkya La pass at 5235 meters is the highest point in the journey.

The region is largely protected as Manaslu Conservation Area. It was established in 1998, and covers an area of 1663 square kilometers and lies in the northern part of Gorkha district. Altitude varies from 600 meters to 8156 meters above the sea level. It houses diverse flora and fauna including 2000 species plants, 33 species of mammals – snow leopard, musk deer, Himalayan tahr, red panda, 110 different bird species and 11 types of butterflies.

Wild flowers and rhododendron forest are the main vegetations found here. The region is blessed with beautiful sceneries, majestic Himalayan ranges with ten peaks of over 6500 meters, high altitude glacier lakes, rich biological and cultural diversity. There are several Buddhist monasteries like Shringi, Mu and Rachen gompas.
