October 29, 2008 Wednesday 12:15 p.m. Lunch at Kimrong Day 9

Yesterday was the 3rd Day of the Festival of Lights - the Day of the Cow. At dinner Dilman came to get us to show us the lighting of the candles at each doorway. After dinner some young women laid out 4 or 5 yoga style mats on the “patio”. Several young men had drums; the women sang, and then individuals started to dance. I took some pictures but it was all guess work, because it was so dark I couldn’t really see, and then there was a delay in my camera. Bruce said he figured out how to focus and then zoom. I think he got some fantastic pictures. Dilman danced. Afterwards the women gave each person a garland made of marigolds and collected a donation from us. It was fun, cold, but we were all sipping ‘Bag Piper’ which helped keep us warm.

We got up a little later than usual - left Chamrong at about 8:30 a.m. Walked uphill first and then a VERY long downhill. Hard on Bruce. We got here at Kimrong at about 11:10 a.m. Bruce got here about 12 noon. His knees are in agony. We are having lunch here because it is still another hour and ½ up to Gandruk.
