After a day of delayed gratification and an evening of enlightenment; I arrived at Pokhara under cover of darkness. In the hard-scrabble field/ bus station. There was little to see but dust under Nepal's dim, fluorescent lighting. So I grabbed the first taxi driver that was willing to take me for $4. I'm staying at the KC Hotel in Damside. The 'other' side of the the tracks. $6 a night gets you a... Read Full Entry

Pokhara, maybe
The bus ride from hell isn't helping sell the place thats for sure. But the geography might save it. In a couple of days we will be in a better position to make that decision. Are you doing any overnight treks?

Mike to Karen
The bus ride is a bus ride. The road is subject to debris slides so you may get lucky or you may not. If my thirteen hour ride is more than you would like to deal with then jump on a plane and come out here. 20-minute flight. I'll even pay for your ticket :-O

Mike, I must say I am addicted-to your stories.! Quite interesting, informative, and amusing. Love a guy who can laugh at himself and never stop learning! Hope you keep having great experiences and the girls catch up eventually. Karlie didn't think Karen liked the earthquake much but so glad no one was hurt. Keep it coming and stay safe! Lisa

It's A Trip
Always something new here to see or do. A geological marvel. I'm in Jomsom now at the very foot of Annapurna I. 8,041 meters high. It is a big boy. Altitude here in town is about 8,500 feet. Gets your attention when you first arrive but the scenery is transcendental and you adjust. I did a small climb today and around every bend there is a new thing to marvel at.

Love your writing
It amazes me that you didn't become a writer and publish your work. You are surely gifted and enjoy hearing about your trip . Peggy

Thanks Peggy
I appreciate your kind words. I'm in Jomsom now at the base of a mountain called Annapurna I. I've not seen anything like this before. It's religious. I will cover it in the next Blog.
