Farewll to a good friend
Greg and me, a couple of old hippies. Indian Embassy, a lesson in inefficiency.
So Pete and I set off early on Friday morning for the embassy. We queued outside for a while then rushed in to get our numbers, A33 and 34. After about an hour and a half our numbers were called but when they checked, the telex had not come back from the Australian embassy in Sydney so our visas could not be processed. Funny thing is that we put our request in on the 13th but our documents were in the 15th pile. They had obviously not sent our telex to Sydney for 2 days which meant that we would now get our visas the following Monday at the earliest and would not be leaving for Varanasi until the Tuesday. Bother, more money to shell out at the hotel but not enough time to get involved with anything. I am now champing at the bit to DO SOMETHING!
While walking back from lunch on Friday with Suzan my new American friend and cursing the Indian embassy under my breath I literally bumped into Greg and Uttam from the ashram. I am not sure that one is supposed to hug and kiss a swami,
My roomies!
Greg and Uttam on the large roof area just outside my room. but I did. It was just so good to see them. It was decided that they would finish their shopping then that night we would go out for a good meal together. We had a ball and the bottle of french wine (Uttam pretended not to notice) with our meal was a real treat. It must have gone to my head as when we went to pay the bill, Grey and I decided to split it as swarmis have no money, I started to count out thousand rupee notes. Instead of giving 2000 I had counted out 20,000! Twit. About $350 is a bit over the top even for a great meal, which it was. Greg and Uttam thought it was hilarious and will never let me live it down. And here I am publishing it!
It was a bit late by the time they dropped me off at the hotel, so they decided to stay the night, but......no room at the inn. So once again I offered my large 3 bedded room, which they agreed too. But I had to explain to the hotel why once again I was having two men share my room. I still wonder
A good rat!
If you have been following my blog you will know my aversion to rats. This one I liked! what they think of me, but don't really care. I laid there on my bed amazed that I was spending the night with a beautiful swarmi and an American devotee. We never know where our lives will lead us do we? Providing we are brave enough to put our selves out there and experience a different side of live.
The only problem with meeting them again was that we had to say goodbye, but I am sure that we shall meet again, either this year in Rishikesh or next year who knows where.
There are just a couple of photos for you. One of the rat that I found and really liked. A good rat is a flat rat and then a couple of my room mates for the night.
