Reflections on Malaysia
Malaysia wasn’t what we expected. In comparison to the other SE Asian countries we’ve visited it was our least favorite. This being because of how expensive we found everything. Where $20 got us a gorgeous air con room in Thailand and Vietnam, it gets you an office cubical with shared bathroom in Malaysia, blankets if you are lucky. Transport to places cost over a whole days budget…needless to say, we saw our bank account dwindling quickly if we stayed.
We don’t understand why almost every hotel room we stayed in used cubical dividers for walls. Only have we seen this in Malaysia.
The Pros of Malaysia – EVERYONE spoke English. No matter where you were you could always count on getting directions, or recommendations. Malaysia was clean, tourist friendly, and city transport was easy to navigate. Arguably Malaysia has the best food in the world. Start with Chinese-Malay ‘Nonya’ fare, move on the Indian curries, naan bread and masala teas, and the Chinese buffets. We ate our little hearts out for really cheap.

Will we return to Malaysia? Probably not…but never say never.
