Kuala Lumpur Airport Sleeping Arragements
It was cold, a bit hard and very noisy...but we made it through and on to Vietnam! We left our place of paradise for the aiport in Bali at 630pm....the flight was continually pushed back 15 mins, 30 mins it left and hour and a half late....wasn't the worst delay, only Bali airport has not a whole lot to offer and has barely any seats worthy of sitting in....we managed however. We flew Airasia with no dramas and in 3 hours arrived in Malaysia at Kuala Lumpur Airport. It was 1am at this point...we had a plan in place to pay for the Plaza lounge they had at the airport. Sounded blissful, free flowing draught beer, food, comfy couches, shower, even a putting green (so the internet said). We figured we could cough up a few extra dollars to be able to sleep a bit before our flight at 6am left for Hanoi....yeah right!! Strike one: The "lounge" was being cleaned and would reopen at 430am..Strike 2: apparently you needed a boarding pass to enter this elusive lounge! Strike 3: we had neither! The check in counter didn't open until 430am so...we did what the rest of the people at the airport...find a place and sleep.
We searched high and low where we thought would be a "safe" place. We would slowly walk around with our cart filled with our 2 backpacks and people would look at us, and then lay down on the empty seats they had beside them...ok ok, so they didn't want to share!!! We did end up finding a nice quiet section near a check in counter, I figured if they needed to open it would be our alarm clock, because by this time we were so tired that we just wanted to lie down for a bit. And so we slept...until 430am when they announced we could check in...this is when the Asian shuffle began...............
Most of the flight to Hanoi was of course, many Vietnamese....many of these people do not follow orders, rules, laws ect...instead they just go....wherever, whenever they just go...we had to wait in a line to get our boarding passes and the shuffle to the front began and we noticed right away, it was almost a bit of a game to us...shuffle back....shuffle shuffle shuffle hehehehehehhehe we made it pretty quickly to the front, it was so comical. The shuffle didn't end there though, the boarding and exiting was even more of a reality show than we could ever had expected!
While we were waiting to board the plane, we noticed a group of 6 or 7 Vietnamese women all carrying HUGE bags, much much bigger than they were! It was so strange to watch, they could barely carry the bags...all I could think was what on earth could have been in those bags! They were the worst of the shufflers...we had to wait outside the gate which was located in an enclosed room. There was a rope in front of the CLOSED doors...2 women decided to walk over the rope and shuffle their way into the gate...of course the rest of the group of people waiting to enter gate #14 followed suit and shuffled quickly. Al and I were speechless. What if they did that in the States???!!!!! They would be arrested for goodness sake!
Finally they were escorted out by one of the overworked officals in the airport....it was amazing though that they thought the rules just didn't apply. So...of course when it was finally time to board Al and I shuffled right to the front again, I think we stressed fair few people out! We made it to the plane first and just sat and watched the beginning of the Vietnam madness! The women with the big big BIG bags started all putting their bags in the front of the plane...mind you Airasia is a budget airline, you can pay xtra to sit in the front 5 rows, but no one does and they tend to be empty for the entire flight, so these women thought they would just sit there....it definitely didn't work...and boy were they upset. For most of the boarding they just stood there in the front rows, staring at their bags...it was absolutely insane! Finally, the flight attendants ushered them all to their respective seats...only to have them all come back when the announcement came that we were almost ready to land.
No joke, all of them ran to the front while we were descending and removed their bags and sat in the front with them! The poor flight attendants had to put all the bags back up again and ask them to sit down! We landed and immediately the women stood up! I mean the madness was unbelievable.
We have no idea why they would be like this, was it because they have never flown before?? Were the bags filled with things they accumulated in Malaysia??? We have no clue...it was just out of this world though! Really was an amazing reality tv show for us!!!
We have Landed in VIETNAM!
