Technophobe faces fear!

For a dark ages technophobe like me, blogging is bloody difficult. But I will persevere and break through this major learning barrier and (finally!) force my way, kicking and screaming - not to mention with tufts of ill-afforded hair covering the keyboard - onto this damned beast the Intereffingnet. So please forgive the lack of content and understand that all my (already little) time has gone into taming the beast rather than honing my (very) long lost literary skills…
So without further ado, hey ho cyber Silver!

Getting from there to here.

Waking up in the dark and driving to Cape Town airport through the nightlights was exciting, for both the kids and I. As a mother, I’ve forgotten what life beyond the Family Curtain is like, with early mornings usually spent muddying around the bottom of porridge bowls. It was refreshing to watch my local surrounds wake up and to remember how beautiful Home is before even leaving…

There. Or is it Here?

We landed in Kuala Lumpur at 5.30am, as the city began to awake and caught the fast train into the city centre. Throbbing techno music provided a somewhat obscure soundtrack to our excitement

Check out my robe darling!
while slanted eyes reviewed our eager passports peering over facemasks which provide a creepy protection from Swine Flu and the other ugly alien bugs.
Spices and heavy perfumes hung thick in the early morning air and hooded eyes noticed our every detail from behind anonymous Burkas.
After a sleepless night, our plush hotel - viva Geoff - was most welcome and despite protestations, I threw everyone into a bath and then into bed for a few hours shuteye.

Hello summer!

We woke and sealed leaving winter by heading straight for the hotel’s impressive pool. Then it was onto the train and into Chinatown for dinner. Before long, the kids had melted into silent, gaunt-eyed shells, so we headed home to hit the sack.
One am.
I won’t rush to fix our body clocks.
Night-time is a luxury when one sees little of it.

Kuala Lumpur.

A truly cosmopolitan city, peopled by a global society that appears to allow differences. Fuelled by magnificent, cheap food, we sweated our way through some hot days, washing the city grime and heat off in the pool every time we returned home. A year's worth of swimming lessons crammed into four days, Phoenix

can now go down the waterslide and plop off the end and swim to the steps all by himself. Faith however, still views the water with suspicion.
As for me, I bow to the pool like she is a god.
A kind saving grace in this heat. And a refuge from the city for two children…

Island life calls.

Stepping aboard a small propeller-propelled aircraft with two small children is an act of faith for someone who dislikes flying.
The consolation of flying to an island is that if our Firefly went up in smoke, the ocean would put her out.
