Hello all
We are just about to eave KL after a busy but v enjoyable 48hrs
Left Manchester on time and arrived 5mins early after a comfortable flight - not bad after 12hrs and 6000 miles. It took almost 2 hours to get from airport to KL city centre with delays of rush hour traffic made worse by the arrival of thunderstorm and torrential rain. This has been repeated daily but has not stopped us getting out and about. When it rains I realise why the kerbstones are 12" high - the roads become fast flowing rivers and your feet get wet crossing roads
Went to see the usual tourist spots - Merdaka Sq. Selonga club, National Mosque and Railway station. Got caught in the rain in Chinatown yesterday at the market so ducked into McDonalds for shelter. Saw that Chicken burger, large fries and large drink was $M7.50 - about 1.25 at home.
Today visted the Lake Gardens with Orchid Gardens and Hibiscus Gardens
Went to the Bird Park with v large free flying avairy - quite unnerving when a large Rhinoceros Hornbill comes flying at you - wear a hat at all times!!
Met up with Teresa Chow an old colleague of mine for dinner last night and have been invited back to stay in the future - Joan and I had already decided we'd come back again - you probably need about 4/5 days to get a good look at all there is here and to venture out of the city to some of the other sights
I'd better go now as the taxi is due in 20mins to take us to the airport for the next stage.
Next entry from Christchurch
Bye all
Derek & Joan
