We left Krabi at lunch time and unfortunately our flight was delayed, nonetheless we arrived in KL just as it was getting dark. We flew Air Asia and you come into the LCCT (Low Cost Carrier Terminal) it astonished me that we are so lucky in Europe to be able to cross borders without issue. We were in the immigration queue with Air Asia staff from Indonesia, imagine having to go through that every day?! We caught the bus to KL Sentral and then hopped on the Monorail to Chinatown, the only place that we envisaged being able to afford a hotel. China town certainly didn't disappoint, it was just a minging as China and smelt the same. We had seen a hostel in the book so we went there, the book said that the owner had been proactive in the fight against bugs, this seemed like the best option. I said that our room reminded me of Alcatraz and Joff commented that the rooms at Alcatraz are actually bigger. We couldn't get ready in the room at the same time and we fitted in just about with our rucksacks. When we were in Vietnam we were sat next to a
guy who was embarrassingly British who kept talking about "Luxuriating" and how they "Luxuriated in Thailand" I guess the same could be said for us, we didn't Luxuriate in KL!!!!!!!! Before we arrived Joff said that he imagine KL to be like Bangkok but clean ..... hmmmmm
Kuala Lumpa was like no where I have ever been before, yet it reminded me of so many places that I have been: Cairo, London, Beijing the list goes on. The centre has moved to KLCC which is the location of the Twin Towers and is quite like Hong Kong or Canary Wharf in London. Word of Advice stay here, do not stay in Chinatown!!!! haha. The part where Chinatown is (the old centre) has a ton of what once were beautiful colonial buildings which have gone to wreck and ruin and haven't been properly maintained.
Despite the fact that we would have loved to have stayed in our windowless cell for the evening we headed out to the Regee Bar. I heard them play "No Woman No Cry" once but that was actually the only Regee that I heard. We had dinner there and a couple of drinks and waited
for the Premiership Decider to come on. It turned out to be quite a good atmosphere in the Bar for the Footie and Back packer girls get a spirit and mixer for 3 Malaysian $ (I was quite pleased to be recognized as a backpacker and referred to as a girl!!)
The day after seeing Man U pretty much take the premiership title, we had a bit of a lie in and headed out to see some sights. I have never been to anywhere as hot as Kuala Lumpa in all of my life. It said that it was difficult to navigate on foot and it wasn't wrong. We ended up at the train station where they have separate ladies toilets for ladies in Burkhas and ladies without. Apparently wearing shorts, flip flops and a strapless top means you can't go into the toilet for ladies with Burkahs, I was chased out of there by the cleaning lady with a mop! Meanwhile Joff got chatting to a local guy who helped us out. We went to the National Mosque Masjid Negara, the Central Market (which is in a lovely Art Deco Building), The Chan See Shu Temple and the
Bird Park. We discovered at this point that the Monorail is probably the best way to get about having walked over 10 miles in blistering heat. In the evening we went to Seri Malyu which is apparently one of the best Malay Restaurants in a traditional Minangkabau Building. We had the buffet and there was traditional Malay entertainment which was excruciating!!!!!
We joined the queue to get the Twin Towers tickets at about 8:00 am the following day, along with every other tourist in KL and got tickets for 2pm. We headed back to the hostel, packed and checked out and went for food before heading back there. The trip up the towers was really well worth it, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We headed back to the hostel collected our bags and tried to locate the shuttle bus to TBS (as you can see everything is KL has an acronym and it makes it really difficult to find what you are looking for). We picked up a Burmese Refugee (don't ask) and he helped us out. We also managed to get a discount as we were traveling as a group of 3! True to form the bus stopped just
short of Melaka and we had to get on another one but we arrived shortly after 8pm. We took a cab and eventually found our hotel, it is spacious and clean and pretty upmarket for us in spite of the price tag!
