The crappy weather today has given me a chance to catch up with the blog. Arrived into Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. Bus trip from Melaka was only 2 hours so it was handy. Got another crazy taxi driver who didn't speak a word of English and couldn't find the hotel. Jane was quite worried on the street he was driving down, looked quite dodgy but eventually he found the place. We're in a pretty good location in the centre of the city. First night we ventured around the corner to the local shopping mall called 'Times Square'. This place is absolutely huge. 9 floors and I'd say about a 1000 shops (at least). But wait there's more...... try adding an indoor theme park with its very own roller coaster in the shopping mall. And it's not just a small little roller coaster, it's a proper full sized crazy ass scary yolk ( yes I know I'm a pussy, I don't like roller coasters)Next day 1st stop was the Petrona Towers. (Took us longer than expected to get to them as the brain farts came again and we ended jumping on the monorail for 3km in the wrong direction). You can't come to Kuala Lumpur without seeing these twins. Tried to get up to the observation floor but it was sold out for the day. We decided instead to try the KL Tower which we found out has a higher observation deck so happy days.Although Kuala Lumpur is the capital it doesn't have the same buzz of a typical capital city. Everyone seems to walk around in slow motion. A word of warning the footpaths here are not for walking but used as an additional lane for mopeds when the traffic lights are red. Bucket loads of restaurants where we are staying. We tried a Malaysian restaurant one of the nights, great food at very cheap prices. You could have a proper meal with drinks for 2 people for €10. I saw Tiger Woods doppelgänger in there, only he was about 2 feet smaller with a pot belly. Headed down to Chinatown on the second day. Not a lot to say only that "it does exactly as it says on the tin" - it's full of Chinese. There is an O'Brien's sandwich cafe here aswell and its been here for 10 years. Imagine that, I didn't even think O'Brien's was around that long.Took a trip to the Batu caves which are located on the edge of Kuala Lumpur. As you will see from the photo's this place is cool to see and also is guarded by a swarm of hungry monkeys. I think my hearing is getting like my Dad's cause on the way out from the caves where the stalls are set up I thought a woman asked me "any gold rings for you sir", I said to Jane, why on earth would I want to buy a gold ring and her response was she asked you "any cold drinks sir". Same day took a trip down to Merdeka Square to see the city museum and the fountains. Tomorrow we are off to our last destination in Malaysia which is Penang. Involves another 5 hr bus trip but should hopefully make up for that with its beaches. p.s. see the pic of the huge wardrobe in our hotel room 😊
