On Friday afternoon we decided to escape to the haven known as 'Damai beach', where we resided in a lovely homestay for two nights called Nanga. Nanga Damai Homestay There was a lovely tropical garden, waterfall and poolside - just pure relaxation. The homestay had five lively dogs who guarded the property, and we had our own private balcony with a view of the South China sea - a very friendly homestay. Friday was spent by the pool, and then we walked up to the local seafood restaurant where we enjoyed Singapore noodles (curry), jungle fern and prawns.

On Saturday we got a lift down to Damai beach where we went swimming for a short while in the choppy sea - but very warm. Lovely view of the nearby mount Santubong. More noodles for lunch! Then we had a quick swim back in our homestay pool before visiting Permai - The rainforest cafe. Here we ate a vegetable curry with freshly squeezed pineapple & watermelon juice - looking at the beautiful sea view followed by sunset. We would also recommend the tree houses at Permai - enjoyed by some of the other volunteers - a night in the trees for an unusual exotic experience - they get booked up quickly though. Permai Rainforest Resort A much needed weekend of relaxation!
