Well, we have been traveling up the Batang Rejang river all day and are hungry and thirsty for a cold beer so this will be a quickie. We left Kuching after an awesome evening of walking the waterfront and eating ice cream for a quarter a cone ... oh, and of course, chocolate cake and peanut butter cheesecake at a knockoff Starbucks.

We went on two boats today, the first getting us across a small portion of the South China Sea to Sibu, and the second taking us a long way upriver where there is an incredible amount of logging industry and hundreds of traditional longhouses. We have just recently arrived in Kapit, a small fishing, logging, and trading city of approximately 8,000 people.

Joyce didn't fair too well at the beginning of our journey, but nothing that about 6 hours sleep on the boats didn't cure. Everyone is doing well and tomorrow morning we are off to Pegalus Resort ... yes, we are treating ourselves ... we hope ... for 2 nights and 3 days where we will do some jungle trekking, get an authentic tour of a longhouse, some night tours, and other adventurous activities.

After the Pegalus stay we plan to travel on boat again upriver further to Belagus and then traveling via 4x4 to Bintulu, which is back on the coast, before we take to the air and travel to the other province of Sabah, flying into the capital city, Kota Kinabalu.

We have all received our fair share of sunshine in the past few days as the weather has been absolutely gorgeous and we have been outside for the majority of the days. All in all, everyone is doing well and staying healthy and were looking forward to what tomorrow brings as everyday we have had so far has been an adventure!

Love,

Jon and Laura

Big Balls?
I've been reading your blog and laughed my ass off at the "Big Balls" fiasco. It wasn't until the end that I read "Mary Poppins (Jon)" that I realized that Jon had not deemed HIMSELF with the generous name of Big Balls. Jon, you should have run toward him, rugby style, screaming "I AM GOLIATH LONGFELLOW. YOUR ANTICS HERE ARE NOT WELCOME. I AM THE MASTER OF THIS JUNGLE". Laura would have, no doubt, laughed and the monkey would have won anyway. Such is life in the rainforest, I guess. I'm glad you got your backpacks...safe and sound. I am sure that Jon was worried about all his hair products. We all know how he can't get by without those for all of his flowing locks. Hahhahahahaahh..... You guys sound like you're having a wonderful time! Take care of yourselves and each other. Keep writing and wear lots of sunscreen!!! Lots of Love Renee
