Who ever said getting a visa to enter any country is wrong! To get a 60day visa for Indonesia i had two options: get a 30day visa on arrival and then try ad extend it once in Indonesia or go to the Indonesian embassy while in Kuching and get a 60day visa straight up. So i thought while i have a few days here i could fit it in nicely. An hour later after been taken through every housing estate that side of Kuching i arrived at the Indonesian embassy along with my passport, flight confermation for leaving Indonesia and proof of funds. After filling out an application form and collecting my number i met one of the representatives where i had to write an intentions letter. 170rm and 4hrs later my application would be done and i could collect it! Very efficient! I was that quick in the embassy the same bus picked me up on the way back (or maybe they just took the long route). Catching up with Zoe, Sally and Lee we went to get lunch and visited the mosque before i took another bus out the the embassy.
Arriving at the embassy my application had been
completed and i recieved my passport with my new visa, that expired 9days before i leave Indonesia!! WHY? They had my flight information! They didnt even mention this too me. I honestly thought it was done easy, i was wrong! and it had taken a whole day!
Out for dinner again, o how i would love to cook, even just a simple meal. Roasted vegies with cous cous? feta, salami mmm
We had decieded to visit the Wind and Fairy caves this morning, and after taking the bus to Bau then the first person i spoke to offering to take us to the first of the caves for free as he wasnt sure when the next bus was we were off to a good start. (The caves are about 8km apart) Although small the Wind caves are interesting and very slippery. There are '3' caves within the cave and you could take some pretty cool photos with the reflections from the light entering the cave. Why in Borneo does know one ever know when a bus will depart? We waited patiently for an hour for the bus to the Fairy cave and impatiently for a further half an hour. By which time we lost interest in going to the other cave, headed into a warehouse to ask if we could use their toilet (they said yes and then should and watched while one of us waited outside, very comforting) and then walked the two and half km back to Bau in the afternoon heat. Ordering 4 cans of 100plus and mixed rice we collapsed into chairs, drained and dripping. We learnt however that the gold looking paper thrown all over the streets sometimes is money for the dead and not to be picked up! We then missed the bus back to Kuching by literally a minute and had to wait a further 40minutes for the next bus, long day.
For the afternoon we had planned to go shopping : ) but most importantly we thought we at least deserved a hot fresh waffle mine covered in chocolate, honey and blueberries, delicious. The shopping didnt really last very long as the walk in the sun nearly killed us and the fact that the shop attendents insist on following your every move just because you are white made us leave the shops constantly. Sitting down for dinner the waitress quickly came to take our orders, asking for another two minutes she stood and clicked the top on her pen impatiently until we ordered! i nearly took the pen out of her hand and broke it! Too long of a day for that.
