The warrior
Poisonous dart in hand Its true and Kuching is totally cat orientated, they have a Museum of Cats and cat statues all over the place.
This city is really attractive probably more so then KK, I am amazed as most Asian cities just arent.
On arrival from the airport I went wandering around for quite a while, I was trying to find a Lonely Planet book for Indonesia as I go there in a few days and I wanted to go to Mcdonalds, I have never been a big fan of Asian food and I am getting sick of chicken and rice. Although saying that I am looking forward to Soto Ayam when I get to Indo.
I then wandered along the river front and checked out the antique shops, I found a great sword but am reluctant to risk bringing it home as it is expensive and I dont want Customs confiscating it.
In the evening I went to a restaurant called Blah Blah Blah and ordered an Oyster pancake, when it came out it was more like a huge prawn chip (the size of a fruit bowl) with about 10 oysters inside, it was good though.
I didnt
sleep so well last night had this mosquito trying to feed on me, kept getting up and trying to kill it but the bastard wouldnt be found, yet every two hours or so it was back.
When I woke this morning it was pouring and the rain didnt let up till aroud 1.30pm in the afternoon just as I was arriving at the Sarawak Cultural Village, I dont usually go to these sort of places because they are invariably kitsch, but this one was a pleasant suprise, they had houses from each of the different ethnic groups, some of which are occupied and craftsmen making traditional items. There was one guy from the Petan tribe making a blow pipe and yes I want one, but I know for sure that they are illegal in Australia and I have no hope of getting one of them in.
There was another guy from the Iban tribe making swords, it was all quite interesting. They then put on a dance performance at the end with dances from different tribes, I must admit I enjoyed it.
I got back to Kuching about 6.30 and went to McDonalds again, then I went
searching for the cat statues and photographing them, while I was doing this I found a pub that sold Guinness so I stopped for a tipple before buying a few souvenirs.
I flew to KL yesterday and lost my Lonely Planet at KL Central, which sucks, I will probably have to buy another, I got a room in the old KL train station it is faded but still has that old British grandure and the room was huge.
I was in a cab at 4am this morning to get out to the low cost carrier airport its about 70 odd kilometres from the city I arrive in Solo at about 8.30 am Indo time.
