Well after some serious trekking in the Cameron Highlands, we decided to take it easy for a little while and laze on the beach on beautiful Pangkor Island. It was blue skies with the occasional white whispy cloud, and this time the water was lush!
On arrival at Pangkor ferry port, we had no problem getting a lift in one of Pangkor's many taxis, all of which are bright pink 'barbie-style' mini-buses! We stayed at the Nazri Nipah Camp, where we had our own little shed (double room), complete with slightly smelly 'asian-style' toilet! Lets just put it this way, our balance is improving!! It was a bit scary at times, when the monkeys in the trees above would drop nuts and other bits of food and they would come crashing down onto the corrugated iron roof of the hut during the night! We also had regualr visits from a beautiful toucan! The camp's communal area was pretty cool too, again sheltered by corrugated iron, but lined with hammocks aplenty to laze away the day! We also got quite addicted to what was described as tea, but actually tasted like a hot, chocolatey-malty type drink! And Laura certainly made the

Chillin' with a nice strong can of lemnon ice tea. Living on the edge. most of the banana and honey pancakes each morning!
What came as quite a shock was that Pangkor was eerily quiet. Having been used to being surrounded by restaurants and road side food stalls and constantly invited into restaurants, we suddenly found that we only four restaurants to choose from and they were all about five times more expensive than what we were used to paying!! But we didn't starve, it just took a bit more exploration than usual. The island picked up a bit on Saturday night, where it appeared that a lot of Malaysian people from the mainland came over for the weekend.
So we soaked up the sun, enjoyed cooling off in the sea and did a lot of reading, before we headed back to Kuala Lumpur for a couple more nights. In KL, we found ourselves another great little hostel - this time in Chinatown and a bit bigger and busier than the where we stayed in KL last time, but also cheaper and just as good overall. We bought some bargain clothes in the Chinese market (all genuine labels of course!), and spent some time in the National History Museum. We are now
KL at night
With the KL Tower and Petronas Towers all lit up. Lovely. back in Singapore, where Laura enjoyed a cheeky Singapore Sling, and we had an unusual journey as our bus from KL left us at Singapore immigration instead of taking us to the city as he should have done! We were held up a few minutes as they were a bit thorough (no gloves or anything though!) but no more than about 10 minutes. Seems cheeky to be so impatient considering the bus was supposed to leave KL at 9.30 and didn't go until 10:35 in the end! Anyway, we got here in the end and tomorrow morning we head to Borneo, to hopefully conquer South East Asia's highest mountain....
Finally, we'd like to dedicate this entry to Smudge (Luke's family dog) who had to be sadly put to sleep last week. His affection, enthusiastic paw and waggy tail will be greatly missed by everyone.

Thanks Darlings for the photo and mention of Smudgie, the house is so quiet without him, cats are so silent in comparison. Lovely photos of your travels too and the Singapore Sling has been my favourite cocktail since the 60's at the Inn on the Park in London, when I was young and lovely!!! Rachael sends lots of love and says to tell you she misses you both but is really happy you are having such a good time. Doctor has signed me off for 2 more weeks. xx
