Shop!
At Batu Ferringhi Three times now I’ve taken a couple girls shopping, to the night market, to Batu, or to the mall. In this picture of us I am drinking fuel for shopping: fresh star fruit juice. They really like to shop so we didn’t have too much trouble passing our time. I bought a most outrageous little trinket, I’m not sure what to call it but it is some huge plastic crystals like they sell everywhere. I have hung it on my backpack. I’ll probably get robbed for it its so gorgeous, hahaha, no really I like it a lot. Mom, you know how I always wanted pink & sparkly things when I was young? Well, now is the time for sparkly stuff. I bought a pink purse at Batu Ferringhi, it is pink & covered in sequins. I got the lady down from 35 RM to 15…so it’s like 5 bucks. It is cheap but I don’t want it to last forever anyways. I also bought the most enchanting white skirt made in India from Sam’s for 35 RM. There are a lot of short skirts here even though at home they seem to be longer.
I have some kind
Georgetown
So much shopping in Georgetown! of allergic reaction to some bug here. We don’t know if it is a spider or caterpillar or what. I wish I brought that cream I got in Mexico cuz I really need something. I am going to talk to Mrs. Case about it & see if she can give me some advice. Jason said that I most likely will have these terribly itchy spots on my arms & legs, and then it will go away…until the next time I get bit. Got athlete's foot from this humidity as I have to wear tie up shoes all the time. As for my stomach, nothing has been bad enough to keep me from doing what I intended to do... that's as specific as I'll get.
We went up Penang Hill with the school by tram this week. It was really humid so there wasn't much of a view. It is the large mountain right behind where we live, maybe 45 min drive. The kids weren't impressed, they weren't even interested in looking out the windows so to add to the tightness & stickiness it was outrageously loud with 45 kids rattling off Mandarin, Korean & maybe 2 words of English.
It wasn't half so bad because I had full access to the open window to take pictures & when I was sick & tired of the noise I have the jurisdiction to demand quiet in some vague form.
Tonight was our graduation ceremony at school. It was nice, some short speeches & certificates given. Then it got rowdy as everybody tried to take pictures while everyone else was running around. As a result I have almost no pictures to show for the evening because they are all blurry. If a still picture can show chaos then mine did the job. I went for a swim in the pool & then stood around while the guys played soccer. I can make quite a good obstacle course for them to work around.
For the first two weeks of camp I didn't know if I was going to survive, I was struggling so much with my reponsibilities. I was trying to do the impossible regarding our game time. I learned more then most of my kids that's for sure. We finally separated older kids & younger & then divided them into groups of 5, each with a team leader (many of
singing upside down
did you know that it sounds funny when you sing upside down? - there is your discovery for the day whom were male) & gave them a project that was adaptable to any group of people. The kids just never listen to me & that makes me mad, ahahaha, so I learned to make use of the guy helpers. These kids don't have much of a concept of standing in line or sitting in a group. Even tonight when their parents were here the kids got off the chairs (left their parents) & sat on the floor right in front of the stage & sometimes got right up on it. As things got louder & louder the parents didn't even do anything about it, I was quite amazed & felt like walking up there & giving them my opinion on the situation. On field trips I tried to get my kids to walk behind me in a straight line (because we were on the side of a road with cars driving by), they all just group in any fashion that they so desire forcing the cars to drive in the other lane. Odd, or so I thought. I had one boy who was about 14, he took one of the little trouble boys like a little brother... it was really
wicked bug bite
allergic reaction to some nasty creature nice to see them sitting together & talking together. One of the ladies said to me, "you're one of the best teachers here, your life has so much potencial, go & take hold of the adventures". It was most encouraging to me because I always saw her as a critic.
A huge accomplishment for me was that my group won. I think I was maybe more excited then my kids, hahaha. It was an accumulation of points won from sports, games, homework etc. I was very proud. For a prize we got a masive bag of junk food, I could hardly hold it long enough for picture taking time. Oh yah, we rock. ahahaha
