So I left the jungle and took the windy road to the Cameron Highlands in a bus that seemed to have no suspension. Cameron Highlands if you can guess is high which is a welcome relief as it is so much cooler here, you should of seen the grin on my face as i steeped off the bus. I arrived late that evening and after our, at times, sickening bus journey i decided to get settled into my digs for the night and grab some food. I headed into the town and treated myself to a Banana leaf curry and it was amazingly good that I had to stop myself from ordening another one even though there was no chance of even managing another one, I was stuffed and it was all for under a pound, I think im going to like it here. After my mammoth meal I headed back up to my guesthouse and chilled in front of the tv as they had some movies on. Tommorrow was the day for exploring the region so it was good to just chill.
The Cameron Highlands is best known for Tea with acres upon acres of Tea leaves but it is
also great farming land so many vegetables, fruits in particular strawberries and flowers are all grown here making it a beautiful place to look around.
I decided to go with the day tour that the Guesthouse offered in order to see as much as I could so the night morning I was up bright and early to see what the Cameron HIghlands had to offer. First stop was the Rose Centre, on the way there I found a flower setting on my camera so went a litle bit mad here as you may be able to tell, they had so many beautiful varieties of all kinds of flowers and a beautiful view of the surrounding areas, it was a great start to the day even though after what seems like taking a thousand photos i only actually got one of a rose but the other flowers were just so much nicer - im obvisously not a rose person.
Next stop was the Strawberry farm, they are proud of their strawberries here, there are numerous stalls selling strawberry merchasndise such as keyrings, umbrellas etc so was looking forward to it. Strawberry plants are very sensitive so we were unable to walk
all around the farm but they had three rows which we could look at, unfortunatly in these three rows there was not one strawberry so i was dissapointed. I did manage to somehow take a photo over the wall so I could get a photo of some strawberries but it was some feat. my dissapointment soon turned to joy however when I had some strawberries and cream because it would be rude not too. They were delicious and I can see now why they are so proud.
back on the bus again to see the butterfly farm where we could see the national butterfly of malaysia which i think is called the bird winged butterfly but I was unable to get a straight answer of this, so don't quote me. first we had a look at some beetles and scorpions and then headed in, there were hundreds of them just flying around and it was a great sight and some had the most beautiful markings that I went a bit camera crazy in here also.
Next was the bit i was looking forward to the most, the tea plantation. It was a Boh plantation that is very famous in Asia
and the scenery around is so green as far as the eye can see with rolling hills, I cant describe the beauty and even my photos dont do it justice, while there we had a look at a Tea Factory where I cant remember much of what was said as it was a bit information overload but I do know that Tea Bags are bad as they just contain tea dust so leaves are the way forward people, at the end of the tour the guide ran up to me to tell me that tea was very good for cervical cancer, maybe he knows something i dont, I wasn't go to take any chances so went to the cafe to sample some of the tea, there was so many to choose from but the one I finally settled on was nice and I of course had to have some cake to go with it, I am british after all, and being me i also spent a fortune in the tea shop but these things have to be done
On the way back we had a quick stop to see some honey being made and a walk around the colourful markets
before heading back to camp. It was a great day and well worth the price as i got to see all I wanted to nd it now on to another change of scene. Since being in Malaysia, I done the City (KL), Jungle (Taman Negara) Farmland (Cameron Highlands), it is now time for the Beach. Perentians here I Come
