Fun and games this morning trying to access our safety deposit box. The manager took us into a little back room and we tried to open the box with our key and his. He clearly didb't know how to use the keys and left us on our own in the safe room
for about ten minutes. We stood around chatting and joking for a while and thinking about how we could do a massive heist, but eventually went to look for him. Another hotelier was rather startled when we appeared out of the safe room and promptly
helped us.

Headed in to town via another route - mainly market area. Steve managed to purchase a roti cup to disperse the batter onto the hot plate - looks like a massive swirl of batter very thinly spread - as seen in the hotel the other morning. Went out on a boat trip this afternoon: saw lot of enormous monitor lizards swimming and on
the banks, a kingfisher, kangaroo fish (mud skippers) and a miniature heron about a foot tall! They are very keen on restoration and are doing up all the houses along the river in a traditional manner. Every time we went past shops and
restaurants, the captain would make a little announcement about what you could buy from them and the owner would come out and wave. The locals are very proud of their independence and the Malysian flag is hung everywhere and displayed on cars etc. It is
fifty years of independence from Britain. There are some very poor dwellings along the river with houses made of corrugated sheet metal and built on stilts - all of them have satelite TV!
