Are We There Yet?

The last 'get up' has happened and on our day of departure there is much excitement and energy in our house. With packing to be finished and a long day of travel ahead there are many questions running through my head about the month to come, among them when would we first hear 'Are we there yet?' Well the answer is 22 minutes into our domestic flight - well not long to go now kids! Alice is a true 'energizer bunny' - up at 7am and still a bundle of noise and movement through our 6 hour layover in Melbourne and as our plane takes off but asleep not long after!

Our Air Asia flight to Kuala Lumpur is just fine and our arrival is simialr to the last time we were here with us arriving (1) smelling of vomit and (2) without a watch and while at least one us would be content for it to always be beer o'clock it does present a small difficulty when trying to get to a plane on time. However now that I think about it no watch is also convenient for an I dont know to the how much longer question!

The decision to have a night in KL was a very good one as we have 36 hours in a luxury hotel with a beautiful pool to relax and catch up on some sleep before leaving for China with the knowledge that hotel accomodation is mostly downhill from here. A visit to one of KL's amazing food courts had Ged and I drooling with what to choose for lunch but munchkins have eyes only for steamed rice although things had progressed by the evening with fried rice being ordered on busy Jalan Alor

Our wait for the flight to Chengdu is perhaps a taste of things to come with the children being the centre of attraction - at one point they are wooed with little packets of marinated we dont know whats and then surrounded by people with cameras wanting photos with them. We suspect the packets contain small slices of what used to be the internal organs of some beast swimming in oil and chilli - needless to say they remain unopened!

Next Stop - Chengdu, China.
