Macau - Las Vegas of the East. Combination of western and Chinese culture. This was a colony before of Portugal so most of the buildings here have Portuguese touch. The streets and government establishments and buildings are in Portuguese names.
Day 1 Arrival in Macau (Nov 12, 2007)
After an hour and 35 minutes in the air, we finally arrived in Macau International Airport. It’s not so big airport but is nice and clean. From the airport, we took a taxi going to our hotel in the city center. It’s good that I have a Chinese character of the name of the hotel which I showed to the driver as he doesn’t understand even a bit of English.
In about 10 minutes, we arrived in Metropole Hotel along Avenida de Praia Grande. It is more beautiful than I expected for a 3 star hotel. The room is big, the bathroom is nice, spacious with a bath tub, hot and cold shower, its clean, the towels are always new, there is hairdryer and the receptionists are very helpful. I recommend the hotel as it is the city center, very nice location, near to tourists’ spots and casinos, bus stop
and many restaurants around.
After we dropped our things and fixed ourselves, we didn’t waste our time and walked going to Largo De Senado, the central area for tourists. Along the way, we saw St. Paul church…, institut., church, Ruins of St. Paul…
After a walk we looked for money changers as we are so hungry already. We have a quick congee which we bought in a small store for 4 patacas. After that we had a good dinner at Wang Tai. Very good meal.
We then have energy already and we went straight to Fisherman’s wharf. It’s a very nice area which is open for 24 hours. I don’t know how to describe it but it’s a must see in Macau. There are lights, casino’s, nice hotels, boutiques, really nice overlooking the ocean and the bridge going to taipa and coloane islands.
Across is the Sands Casino. The place is really overwhelming. It’s a 4-floor building with a modern architecture where each floor is full of people playing roulettes, bacarra, slot machines and the likes. We decided to have a drink some beer here before trying to play the roulette. Its really so hard to
order here as very few waiters know how to speak English here. We end up drinking Heinekin and my friends, Tsing Tao (they’re local beer) which took us about an hour before the waiters understood what we like to have.
Ready to play, as I don’t know how to play and not interested to know the game I just sat down in one corner as my friends play. Hola, my friend won HKD$1400 within just 5 minutes in the roulette. Its enough so we decided to just sit down in the bar there where the bands play and where there are some show girls dancing. It was nice though. My friends decided to have party with their winnings and ordered different kind of beers after another. We had Macau beer which I like best coz its delicious and something sweet with a taste of some fruit. They also had Kriek, Gordon,Westmalle-trapist.
The band with a Filipina lead singer was great that we went dancing with them. Hahaha. Was great experience and had fun night.
When we went back to hotel we were dead tired. Need to sleep, need to get up early for a HK the next day.
Day 2 Sidetrip in HK
Day to go to HK and meet my friends Rose and Nhuj.
After an hour of sea travel taking the turbo jet ferry we arrived in HK at Sheung Wan Terminal. My friend Nhuj was there already to accompany us in our tour. We first had our lunch at Shuntak Center as we are so hungry already. We then proceed to terminal going to Hongkong Disneyland. We then meet my friend Rose for our discounted tickets as she is an employee as a landscape artist of HK Disney. This is my second time in HK Disney but I still enjoyed the place. Its also this time I was able to complete the rides and shows in Disney and see the fireworks display. Fun, fun , fun. My friends are laughing at me when I was screaming in the space mountain. Hahaha
After the fireworks we went to see the Victoria’s Peak. We took the trams and still feel scared even this is my second time. They have this new mall in the peak and redesigned everything so have to pay HKD$ 20 each to go to the viewing area. Scared as I am in heights, I rarely look at the fantastic view of HK from above.
We then had dinner at Bumpa at the peak. Nice view from the restaurant. So romantic.
As its late in the evening already we decided to go back to sheung wan terminal and go back to Macau. We arrived in Macau at almost 1am already. We just fixed ourselves in hotel and went to Wynn Casino and Grand Lisboa. Also amazing Casinos. Tired as we are, we just looked around here and checked the place. Me, just took a bottle of mineral water in Wynn. Hahaha
Day 3 Last Day in Macau (Nov. 14, 2007)
As this is our last day in Macau, we decided to check other tourist spots in the place. We went to A-ma temple where there are so many Chinese tourists. Not so much to see. We then headed to Macau tower. It is the 10th tallest free-standing tower in the world and 8th tallest in Asia. For MOP 80 Patacas, we were able to go inside the tower. On the 58th floor is the observation deck. My heart is really beating here so fast. So tall that I cant even look outside. What more when I realized that the floor is glass so can really feel the height of the tower. So many weird imagination comes to my mind. I cant walk in the floor. The lady guard was laughing at me. This is also a must see in Macau.
We then headed to Venetian Casino - the newest casino in Macau. It is quite far from the city but this is really a must see in Macau. The architecture in really awesome. I cannot express so much how beautiful it is. The paintings, the ceilings, the chandeliers, the casino.. really fantastic. My friend asked me to play the slot machine. We won then lose it again. Hahahaha.
Macau experience was so great. I can say, Macau beats!
