Vangvieng
View from our room We arrived in VangVieng and finally we were getting some sunshine! Hurray!
After a 6 hour coach journey plagued with Laos karaoke on the TV.
Had a quiet first day and bumped into our Irish drinking pals who we had arranged to go 'Tubing' with.
The term 'Tubing' involves getting into the inner tube of a tractor tyre and sailing down stream on the river. After about 3km a Laos fella on the riverbank will offer you a long stick and pull you into his bar! There you can drink Laos beer and use their activities including: a 'death' slide, big swings into the water and volleyball. The biggest swing allows you to go around 20 feet above the water - needless to say Jo did not get involved with this one (though she did get involved with some buckets). There are other bars as you travel down stream for about another 2km. The final kilometre is barless before God turns off the lightswitch and it gets pitch black within seconds!
