Hello from Laos.
Well we are in Luang prabang & loving it, we arrived on monday evening after the
two day boat trip from the north of Thailand, what a journey the 2nd day was
best part of 10 hours- PHEW.
We only spent a couple of nights in Chiang Mai, I continued to try and
damage myself by walking across at a green man, how foolish, a car driver
decided not to bother stopping, anyhow I digress.
We went on a mini trek - fit everything in on one day, hill tribe, elephant
ride and bamboo raft trip. Oh how we wished we had not gotten on an
elephant, it felt wrong. His mahoot had the big metal hook which He dug into
the animals head when he was not moving or stopped to eat - "being Naughty"
I too would be naughty if a man made my head bleed every day by sticking a
steel spike in it, we complained so he got off, but then threatened to shoot stones
at the elephant's bum with a slingshot.
He (the elephant) rewarded us by trying to find some food on the edge of a very steep gully,
nearly
River view
Lovely boats and lovely scenery peeed my pants as I had just heard a story about an elephant slipping
with two people on top who were fortunatly uphill when it fell!!
Any hows, boat trip, fabulous Laos landscape, Luang Prabang, nesstling
behind the trees on the edge of the mekong, with lovely French feel,
buildings, bagettes, down to the young men playing boulle, good food
incuding cake, fantastic waterfalls, wonderfull rainstorms, all very
pleasant. It is an easy town to stay in & walk and cycle and just hang.
Leaving tommorrow will be tricky but 5 nights is a real indulgence.
lots of love Annabet and Richard
