A view of Mt. Fuji from the ropeway (though most of the mountain is hidden behind clouds!). Today turned out to be a busy day. We thought it would be more quiet, but we ended up doing a lot. We got an early start today, and went to the little train station. It took us to Gora, where we caught the cable car. It took us slowly up a steep hill, stopping a few times along the way. At the top we got onto the ropeway (it was a kind of big gondola that could carry 6-8 people). The views were beautiful and we were high up and going higher. We even got to see the top of Mt. Fuji! Though the rest was hidden by clouds. There is one place you pass by that is all barren, and all the sulfurous steam is pouring out from the mountain side.
We switched to a much smaller car on the ropeway, and it took us down to Lake Ashi. It was beauitful. A goofy looking pirate boat picked us up and we stood in the uncrowded first class deck. The rest of the boat was crowded with school kids. It was a little cold outside, but really pretty. The ride was only about 30 minutes. Afterwards we got

Lake Ashi and our corny boat! some lunch -- I had pork katsu again (yum!!) and Dad had a tuna salad. He was so happy to get some tuna fish!
Then we took the boat back across the lake, and the ropeways, and went to the Hakone Open Air Musuem. Since it was a beautiful day, it was very nice to walk outside and look at sculptures -- some were really cool. They had a lot of Picasso's ceramic work, and a few of his paintings/drawings. My favorite piece was this tower (called symphonic tower - i think) and when you walked in, it had stained glass all around. It was beautiful. The sunlight lit it all up, and there were lights inside, so at night, it would be lit up. It was incredible.
We had Guiness outside, and just enjoyed the weather. We got back to
the hotel around 4pm and walked around the Japanese garden they have.
For dinner we went to the local sushi place! It was sooooo Good 😊 I
was excited to finally get some sushi, we got an order of tuna rolls
(they had wasabi in them - so spicy and delicious!) and a plate with a

- salmon, tuna, shrimp, scallop, and a few other fishes.
- 3 sushi rolls with a few things in it
- and the best, egg! It was sweet, like a dessert roll 😊
The sushi was served so pretty - with the fish on the top of the rice,
and a thin strip of seaweed wrapped around to hold them in place.
They were all really good.
This evening I tried the hot spring bath in our room -- you can get
hot spring water in the room, so nice. It was scorching! I had to
add some cold water before i could get in. But it did feel good.
When i got out i was sweating and pink!
Dad tried it in the room as well -- and said it was way hotter in the
room than in the public bath. He's wearing the yakuta provided with
the room.
Tomorrow we head to Tokyo. It is also the start of Golden Week here -
so hopefully it isn't too crowded to do anything!
