Weekend of April 11 we had our first experience of Japanese baseball. Honestly not much difference from a baseball game stateside and no matter where you go in the world people are just passionate about their teams. We went to see the Tokyo Giants which is Japan's oldest and most popular professional team that plays at the Tokyo Dome with some of Anthony's coworkers. We took the train into the dome which was about an hour or so ride. Once off the train station at the dome the city just takes you all in with all the people, shops, restaurants, and once again an amusement park just in the middle of the city. I will get on one of these ferris wheels eventually and drag Anthony along with me! We first stopped to eat at the food court right outside the dome but of course not just a regular food court with McDonalds, etc. We are talking about authentic just overly yummy food and had a nice refreshing Asahi beer before heading into the game.
We made it to the game a little after it started and the color that took over the stands was the Giants orange. They were
giving away free towels which was cool so that when the Giants scored it was a sea of twirling orange towels. The stadium was like any other stadium filled with food vendors and over priced souvenir shops going around the stadium. The food though had a variety of yes you could get your typical game food like hot dogs, hamburgers, pretzels, etc but then you could get ramen, cabbage balls stuffed with seafood, the list goes on. Can you tell we are just enjoying this food oasis in Japan!
I do have to say that I found the Japanese a little more reserved in their passion to their team which don't get me wrong they were very passionate but in a much politer way. Unlike the obnoxiousness that you find most of the time at an American sporting event no offense :-) Anthony would of course disagree with me on this because he partakes in this obnoxiousness LOL But when their team scored you can still feel their pride for their team!
So honestly I have to say one of the best things was to see the waitresses coming around with kegs on their back in backpacks of
the difference Japanese beers! How awesome that we never had to get up to get a beer and get served by a friendly waitress with a keg on her back. I also found me my new drink which is like a cooler but so much better called chuhai. These are carbonated drinks that have different flavors such as the one I had which was lemon. Later in the week I had a grapefruit one which was weird when I tasted actual grapefruit pieces in my can.
I can't say who won the game but the Giants were up when we left in the 7th inning to beat the crowd of trying to leave the stadium. Outside though was interesting to see an MLB sports bar and store with merchandise for all the US MLB teams. Anthony had to get a picture next to the Cardinals and Malik next to the Dodgers signs.
Was definitely a good experience to see Japan's favorite team and even though baseball is not a sport I watch there is nothing like going to any sporting event and just watch people enjoy their team! Definitely will try to catch more games and hopefully soon
get to watch a soccer game and definitely a sumo match!
