Purikura of me and Kaiwa Partners
It goes Asami, me, Mai. So much fun! Thank you Mai for making it so pretty! That's right, my last night here. I've been doing junbi (preparation) stuff all day, and yesterday and am running on 3 hours of sleep, too excited to go to bed.
So, let's break it down: I like Japan. I'm coming back some day. Maybe again as an exchange student, maybe as a worker. We'll see how it works out. I'm so freaking glad to be going home, but I'm already homesick for Tokyo. I haven't even left yet.
I miss the trains.
I miss the dorm people.
I miss the good food.
I miss poking fun at the bad food.
I miss the penguin suica mascot.
I miss the shopping.
I miss the great fashions.
I miss the crazy fashions that are so ridiculous I can't help but love them.
I miss the keitai straps.
I miss my kaiwa partners.
I miss purikura.
I miss my dorm room.
I miss my hour and forty minute commute.
I miss the konbinis.
I miss the vending machines.
I miss Kinoshita sensei.
I miss not having to cook.
I miss earring boy.
I miss the loft department store.
I miss doutor.
I miss seeing totoro everywhere.
I miss cheap anime.
I miss the greatest TV commercials in the world.
I miss seeing Disney Land every day.
I miss being able to say whatever I want whenever I want, because they don't understand me anyway.
I miss random people saying "hello" to me as they walk by.
I miss the little kids whose eyes get really big when they see gaijin.
I miss onigiri.
I miss the hub.
I miss not studying. If only a little.
I miss speaking Engrish.
I miss Gaijin smashing through Tokyo.
I miss godzilla jokes.
I miss hanging my clothes up instead of using the drier.
I miss my balcony.
I miss having a TV.
I miss ochya.
I miss the stationary stores.
I miss going on adventures every Saturday.
I miss learning by screwing up.
I miss the really funny Engrish Japanese people tend to use.
I miss text messaging in Japanese.
I miss buying souvenirs.
I miss pan. Not bread, so much more than bread.
I miss adorable postcards.
I miss spending too much time online finding things to do.
I miss walking everywhere.
I miss walking even more than you think I walked.
I miss all of those really cute animal things that one company makes.
I miss seeing the random guy looking at porn on the train. It's good for a laugh.
I miss making faces at obachan ladies who blatantly stare at me.
I miss being able to get away with being stupid because I'm white.
I miss using chopsticks.
I miss having a ginormous closet.
I miss spending too much money on itunes.
I miss how everything is so damn benri.
I miss how pizza has corn on it.
I miss how everyone bows all the time.
I miss substituting in Japanese words during English conversation.
I miss randomly running into Chinese people and trying to understand what they're saying.
I miss understanding more Japanese than the Japanese people think I do.
I miss sneaking out to the konbini after dinner really sucked.
I miss all the school kids in uniforms.
I miss laughing at the elementary boys in their short shorts.
I miss wondering how it can take 40 minutes to do your make... while on the train.
I miss the feeling of getting a seat right when you walk onto the subway, instead of twenty minutes later.
I miss reading kanji.
I miss flipping off katakana.
I miss watching business men run around at the train stations.
I miss running around at train stations. Yes, there was running.
I miss fruit juice with chunks of fruit in it.
I miss Dr. Pepper cans with skank pictures on them.
I miss the 20 yr old legal drinking age.
I miss how no one really cares if your underage, anyway.
I miss my gaijin card (they take it away! WTF)
I miss recognizing people on the train, and knowing which stop hey get off at.
I miss really tall buildings.
I miss really crowded streets.
I miss depaato.
I miss running into other gaijin.
I miss having a really big mirror in my room.
I miss having so many things to take pictures of.
I miss how everything is pretty.
I miss flipping through magazines and just looking at the pictures.
I miss reading a lot of American news.
I miss the really cute shopping bags.
I miss having all the scales be in kilograms. I never know how much I weigh.
I miss being comfortable in a different country. It's kinda cool. You should try it.
