Arrival in Tokyo
Getting a debrief from Storm and Nick We arrived at Narita Airport and easily found our way to the super expensive but super speedy train into the city. Once we arrived at Shinjuku Station where we had arranged to meet Nick, it was a slightly different story…Shinjuku Station is the busiest in the world. More people move through the station per day than people in New Zealand. Not to worry. Do what your mother always told you and stay in one place.
Sarah stayed with the bags while I went on a chicken and goose chase with Nick….via coin phone, mobile and escalator. We finally got together, with a little help from the Kiwi holler.
This city is madness...so many CRAZY people…very cool and very busy. So much has happened since we arrived on March 22.
Storm and Nick welcomed us with open arms into their little home away from home. It’s in the most amazing area of Tokyo, Omotesando…almost like a mini Paris. Lots of cafes, small lanes and beautiful shops. Very tempting.
The number one place to use the internet in Tokyo is at the Apple Mega Store. So slick, stylish and smooth it makes you drool all the way to the
counter. Plus, it’s free! We spent our first few days there finding jobs and touching base with everyone.
Because it’s Tokyo, there’s always something crazy going on…check out the substitute babies (read dogs) right outside the door of the apple store.
Our first big night out was experiencing a Japanese Izakaya, or pub. Basically you pay a flat rate and can drink all you want for a set time…however you’re only allowed to order one drink at a time. Unfortunately, I blew out - I’d lost so much weight while travelling and drank so much so quickly I was in bed by 8.30pm. The shame!! The rest of the team carried on and even made it to the karaoke bar which stars in Lost in Translation. Very cool from all accounts.
