Edit Blog Post
It has been a month and a half since I arrived in Japan, Shizouka and I have to say Japan is in my heart already. It is a place that is very modern within some aspects and so far removed from Western culture in other ways, its brilliant. I feel like living here is not quiet reality. Yes I work, have friends, drink, eat all the normal things but the responsibilty is different to being in Australia. I feel like my life in Adelaide is on hold and I can just experience Japan as it comes and what I do here has no real bearing on my old life.....well to a certain degree anyway!!!!!!!
I have settled in well, got a brilliant housemate, Amy. She is great, relaxed, likes to have a good time and doesnt mind the fact I like to talk about usless irrelevent information. My job is great, Im teaching at MEK which is an English Kindygarten in Asabata. My class is the Koala class and they are just beautiful, easiest teaching job I have ever had but rewarding and the children make me smile and laugh constantly. I have made some lovely friends, maybe a little
bit on the strange side.....which is perfect for me.
I have seen and experience a few new things since I got here.......which is what its all about. There has been good things and somethings that I would rather forget. I have eaten things that should not be served up for humans, liver or any internal organ for that fact should not be served on a stick. Raw fish is not for me and whatever that food is boiling away in the big tubs at Familymart and some Japanese resturants should have a caution sign on it. I must say I was not a seafood lover before I arrived here but some of it has taken my fancy especially the prawns....yes I am eating prawns(for my friends and family at home where I refused to eat them). Fashion in Japan, I love it.....I would not necessarily wear it all but good on them. Kareoke bars, so much fun except the one underneath my appartment when Im trying to sleep and all I can here is Japanese men singing their little hearts out....not so good my ears. Onsen, amazing on the body, once you get past being naked in front of
alot of Japanese women. Delux photoboths are a fabulous fun sobber and drunk. They are everywhere and very popular with the youth of Japan....smile, pose, click and then add words, and whatever else takes your fancy. I love that I can see Mount Fuji if its a clear day, that mountain is breath taking (Amy my housemate thinks its her mountain, she does love it a little too much). I have decided that I need to do a blog dedicated to the word "WHY", with a BIG question mark. Since being here I have encounter many things too many actually that I have just had to stop and ask myself why they are doing it (Japanese people) or why it is there....stay tuned for that blog but here is one example, children crossing the road, why do they have to raise there hand as they cross? I dont think that will stop them getting hit, in Izu I actually saw a statue of a child with their hand raised near a crossing just to remind them, dont forget to raise your hand. Strange.
Sightseeing, let me think I have been to some suspension bridges up in the mountains at
Samatakyo that was alot of fun I was hopping on then being a clown and scared the life out of a few Japanese people. I went to Shizunami beach, it was raining and cold but there were some people braving the weather and surfing. I went to a very beautiful Japanese cratf market at Mariko and did a bit of pottery and made myself a very lovely pot. I went snowboarding for the first time at Fuji 10 with Matt, Simon and Amy. I spent most of my time with my face or arse on the snow instead of my board. It was alot of fun and will be going again for sure. Spent 3 days in Izu with Amy and Hiedi for my birthday....want go into details about as it will be my next blog. Not much else really alot of shopping and drinking. Have spent many nights at "our boozer", bar in Shizouka and have enjoyed a number of resturants also, Dom Doma is my favourite so far. Lots more to see and do but all in good time.
Thats my first month and a half minus the usual day to day living...details not needed for this
blog. I will try hard to keep up with my blog. Dont expect a weekly one I will only do an entry with a purpose not just to bore you with my everyday life.....well its not boring for me but you may think it is as your not living it!!!!!! And to all those friends of mine that are laughing and saying Rebekah said she would never keep a blog, blame Amy she has converted me to be quiet fond of the occasional blog. Until next time, hugs and kisses for all.................
