Tokyo and around On the 1st September I left Vladivostok and caught the ferry to Japan. There were only 3 backpackers on board, myself, a Scot and yet another Aussie. All the rest were Russians who were going to Japan to buy cheap Japanese cars to bring home. Remains of a kamikaze plane recovered from the sea. Over 1,000 young men, some as young as 17, flew such missions and are very much revered in Japan as modern day Samurai.

Saigo Takamori (with a very similiar story to Michael Collins/Harry Boland) led a rebellion against the Government in the 1877 Satsuma uprising. He committed Seppuku (Hari Kari) when defeated and is popularly known as being the last of the Samurai.
