I posted up 30 photos, which i'm proud of from Okinawa. I only had a weekend to spend there, but we made the most of it by renting a car, taking it off roading, island hopping, snorkeling, joy riding, fires on the beach, questionable late night swimming, fires on the beach, japanese ofuro (bath)... good times... keep reading all keep me posted.. - Zach Ok, so next up for me will be a weekend spent in the city of Hiroshima. Instead of being cultural and riding the bullet trains of Japan, I expect to hop around the local JR train system of Japan as to save money in this expensive country. Did you know the most expensive city in the word is Tokyo and number 2 is Osaka??? Two most in the world both in the ... read more

I think we're getting part of the typhoon that's in the area at the moment, it's raining pretty hard outside and extremely windy, good thing I'm holed up in an internet cafe. This morning seemed so promising too, the sun was shining and the sky was blue.... I decided to go and see a place called Shuri castle today, it is only about a half hour from the city centre. Although it's called a castle it isn't the typical Japanese style of castle. You see years ago Okinawa never used to be a part of Japan, it used to be called the Ryukyu Kingdom, it was it's own country and had a King as the ruler. In that time the King lived at this place called Shuri castle, although it was completely destroyed by bombs during the ... read more

I suppose one of the best, and worst, things about travelling is that you meet some amazing people and make a lot of friends but you only ever have such a short time together. Some people you know that you will talk to after your brief encounter and others you know that they just came into your life for a passing moment and left their mark. I love both kinds naturally, but it doesn't make it any easier to say goodbye. I left Miyakojima today and it was very hard to leave everyone and the island, it felt like I had been there forever and I really did make some good friends, who would have thought hey? I definitely want to return there sometime, whenever that time may come. I highly recommend going there if you ... read more

Sun, fun and fantastic company, that's what I've experienced over the last few days, how about you? Let me make you feel even more jealous! Where do I begin? Well, I caught a ferry from Ishigaki to Miyakojima on Thursday morning, a 6.45am ferry so it was a very early start. I didn't have any problems this time, I had doubled checked the day before where the ferry would be leaving from and I went to the ticket office to get a boarding pass and room number so all was fine this time! The boat trip took 6 hours but because I had got up early that morning I spent the whole time sleeping as did mostly everyone else. When we arrived in Miyakojima it was a beautiful day (and it has been beautiful weather ever ... read more

So I'm in Ishigaki now and this place is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. I spent the rest of the afternoon on monday walking around the shops in Naha again and even though my boat didn't leave til 8pm I planned to get there around 7pm just to be on the safe side, so i started to make my way back to the ferry terminal around 6.30pm that evening, knowing it may take me a while to walk back with my backpack, and it probably sounds silly that I went that early but I used every minute of that time, as things turned out not as I would have hoped. Not bad, but well let me explain... I walked to the ferry terminal that I had been dropped off at the night before ... read more

My last day in Nagasaki was on Friday and I spent it walking around the city again familiarising myself with the small back streets and little arcades and shops. In the arvo it cleared up a lot and so I bought the english version of a Japanese newspaper called the Japan Times and went to a lovely little park and read it, it was nice to just sit in the sun and read and relax. And it's funny how much news I miss being here and not watching the news or reading newspapers regularly! I went back to my accommodation that night to pack my stuff as I would be leaving the next morning and the old lady gave me a leaving present, a little doll thing and some lollies and a drink for the bus ... read more

Hi. sorry for not writing anything for the last few months but I will try to give you the highlights. The last few months have been eventful to say the least both in good ways and bad ways. towards the end of November I had a confrence in Naha which was a lot of fun. I got to go and check out mainland Okinawa which was great and I got to check out the aquarium on the upper end of the island. In mid December I got into a car crash. I am Okay but the car was totalled and it turned into a big debacle because my supervisor either forgot to or didn't bother checking what type of insurance I had and just assumed and told me that I was covered for anything, which I ... read more

We had been to Maeda misaki (point) several times for scuba diving, and snorkeling but on this occasion we were there with a different mission. We were determined to find some rockclimbing routes we had been told were there. We walked all over the area, into and on trails that we didn't even know existed. In fact, during our search, we actually stumbled upon a geocache (our first) and that is where I caught the bug for that sport. When you park at Maeda, you can travel to the left and find these really cool areas that have lots of great rock formations with beautiful sand beaches. We explored a few of the little caves and rocks we found. Unfortunately, the rockclimbing routes were not on this side. We moved over to the parking lot again, ... read more
