Ofunato / Iwate Am Ende meiner Japan-Tour besuchte ich meine Freunde, die ich in kennengelernt habe. Wir unternahmen eine kleine Wanderung im Regen an die Goishi-Küste (碁石海岸), und sahen uns im Ofunato-Museum die Ausmaße der Tsunami-Katastrophe im April 2011 an. Nach einer schönen Zeit in Ofunato fuhren wir zuerst zum goldenen Tempel "Chūson-ji" in Hiraizumi und dann weiter nach Hanamaki/Namari in einen Onsen. The weekend we arrived in Iwate was the first month of spring so there was still plenty of snow around. A Japanese teacher Megan met in Kitakami - Yuki, offered to take us along with her friend Harumi and son Cougar to Geto Ski Resort. How could we refuse! I for one had never seen the snow before so I was thrilled. We were picked up at Megan’s apartment and headed for the resort, only a short ½ hour car ride away. I was like a kid it was so unreal, I couldn’t believe I was in Japan looking at and touching real snow! It was SO white and it looked like clouds there was so much of it everywhere all I wanted to do was make a snow angel and build a snowman. I kept ... read more

So now onto the reason why I've been absent from emails and phone for the last few weeks.... thanks by the way to those who emailed and texted with concern about my silence! And those who didn't miss me, yes you're right it was only 2 weeks after all! I left the riding stables and headed down South to the neighbouring prefecture, Iwate to my fourth farm. Little did I know though that I was heading into a remote, isolated country area with no mobile signal and no internet! Yikes! How would I cope! But as it turned out that was the least of my worries! This farm also didn't have hot running water or a 'normal' toilet..... you poo into a hole in the ground then it's used as manure on the plants! Pleasant hey! ... read more
