March 16th, I left Brisbane with a group of friends for Sapporo in northern Japan. It was me, Hamish, Sarah, Scotty and Joanna. As we climbed in altitude through a clear sky, we flew over a large area of the great barrier reef and eventually the phillipines, what a sight. EVA air out of Taiwon ended up being a pleasure to fly with, and I was happy to have unlimited bloody mary's and watch the much acclaimed film 'walk the line' about johnny cash. ..... "and it burns burns burns, the ring of fire" ..... our night in taiwon ended up being pretty wild. The airline had put us up at a pretty flashy hotel, about 45 minutes out of taipai city. After our complimentary dinner and complimentary beers, we decided to jump in a taxi all the way into the city. We spent more on the taxi than the rest of the night, but it was worth it. Our taxi even parked on the side of the road where he dropped us off, and when we came back a few hours later he was fully reclined and snoring... we tapped on the window and headed back to the hotel..... ok

finally in Japan, Sapporo was a great suprise. Japan has got be one of the most organized and intriguing places on earth.... sometimes almost robotic, no offence intended. People here take politeness to another level, something a lot of countries could do more of. We were all really excited about being here. Hamish's bro, Duncan DMC met us after a few hours of shopping. We hit this place called cham cham's which was a really trendy restaurant with a dj and chilled atmosphere. Also 'unfortunately' all you can drink for 2 hours. Luckily for us, Duncan was pretty smooth with Japanese.... and we could pretty much turn off our brains and enjoy ourselves. thanks duncan. Liam, who's pension Captain Hirafu, we were staying with, met us in Sapporo the next day and we headed out to the wicket ski resort town of Niseko by train. Liam's pension was awesome and really comfortable.... there was even a hot tub. After 3 days of skiing I could barely move.... especially after one run the guys took us down... which involved climbing up part of the mountain on foot and dropping down into powdery tree filled back country. Since i'm no expert, I

got stuck numerous times in the powder and at times was ready to just lie there and die on the mountain. It was fun to get out skiing again anyways and we enjoyed our stay at Captain Hirafu immensely. One night we went for a big banquet style dinner which Liam organized for us, where we indulged in huge crabs, yummy sashimi, sake and a ton of other japanese culinary delights. The night before I was set to fly to Osaka, we had a monster night out in Sapporo. Awesome dinner, followed by kareoke and then DMC and I hit the clubs. Thanks Duncan... I could barely hold my food down for the following few days.
