First we took the shinkansen (bullet train) to Nagoya where we switched to an express train bound for Takayama. Cultural Village and Onigiri
Sounds like a lovely travel day. I like the idea of visiting a traditional cultural village, it must have been a real insight into the Japan past. I too like taking some good food with me for a train journey, so I will look out for Onigiri on my visit there next year :)

Cultural Village and Onigiri
I can really recommend a visit there, it was a very nice place with good insights into Edo Period village life. Onigiri is life, you can find them at most stations and convenience stores, costing between 100 and 200 JPY, no train ride is complete without them! :D
