In this article, I learned that there are two main religions in Japan. They are shinto and buddhism. The text says shinto is as old as the japanese culture. It also says that buddhism was imported from the main land. Most people consider themselves as both.

The answer to the question is that there are two main religions. Shinto is unique because it is as old as the japanese culture. Buddhism is unique because it started in India, and then China and Korea gave it to Japan. Buddhism is also unique because it promotes self enlightenment, meditation, and self discipline.
