Checked out and went on net to waste a few hours then had an early tea, picked up our big bags and grabbed a taxi to bus station.

After waiting about half an hour at the bus ticket office we were asked by the office bloke (on behalf of a giggling couple in their late teens) if he could video us saying a special birthday message to their friend.....we did though we felt like complete prats. It went something like 'Happy Birthday Dendy, wishing you all the best on your special day', but that apparently didn't cause us enough embarrassment so they asked for a retake with an additional sentence in Indonesian that they'd wrote out for us, god only (and the group giggling) knows what we said but I hope their friend is easy pleased 😊

The bus turned up about 20mins later and it was quite an alright bus, a/c worked (a little too well for my liking so it was sharply stuffed with toilet paper), there was just about enough room and the seats reclined. I never dared check out the toilet though... The bus driver however was an utter maniac! Speeding full throttle into blind bends and beeping his horn like that would prevent an impending crash. Seemingly there is not a straight stretch of road in Sumatra and after 10mins the rustle of carrier bags and smell of tiger balm filled the air. Even I got a bag handy. It was like being on a never ending funfair ride with a higher chance of death thrown in. Once the twists and turns calmed down a bit the tarmac road disappeared and we were on a very bumpy dirt track that even Samantha wouldn't attempt....... Then there was the music, the god awful loud pumping music on for most of the night, yes the whole night, went off at about 1.30am and returned with a vengeance at 4am so loud you could hear it over your own ipod on full blast!
