We arrived alive, phew! And the journey took 4hrs less than we expected so we were happy 😊 We arrived in Parapet just after 7.30am and were so lucky that a couple from Padang (going on holiday to lake Toba) took us under their wings and told us where we should get off and got an opulet for the 4 of us to take us to the ferry, they were very sweet and even refused money for the opulet ride.

The boat dropped us off at the jetty right next to our guest house (Bagus Bay). On walking down a group of kids asked if they could practice their English with us. So we answered questions for about 10mins and had the obligatory photo take (there is going to be a lot of photos doing the rounds of me in Sumatra looking horrendous and sweaty). Had to wait an hour for our room to be ready so we sat in our restaurant. Robby was distinctly displeased by the price of food here- '50,000 for veg sweet and sour' he said repeatedly over breakfast. He had a point I suppose it was only 15,000 in Bukittinggi. Anyhoo I had museli (homemade and very coconutty but yummy) and a fruit salad, Rob had a salad sarnie and it was all very nice if not cheap 😊 We had a little wander along our street though and found some cheaper restaurants to frequent which greatly pleased Rob. Got stopped by another bunch of schoolies on the way too......

On getting into our room (the downstairs of a Batak house which is huuuuge, has comfy beds and is very clean) had a much longed for hot shower (for days now we've only had cold water) then we went to sleep for a few hours. Woke up feeling more groggy than earlier and decided food was needed. We went to one of the cheaper cafes we'd seen earlier but after sitting for 5mins and seeing nobody we decided they must be closed, how odd, so we wandered a bit further into a place called Linda's. I had veg curry and rice for 15,000 and Rob had chicken sate for 25,000. The meals were fantastic-big and delicious! Went back to room afters to chill for a bit before a big, looooong sleep 😊
