We arrived in Bukit Lawang in some heavy rain fall...but after our 54 hour trip to get here, we didn't care about having to walk another kilometer in the rain to our guest house!
Our stop over in Cairo...where there was no European Cup final to see since they had not the right connection....Arriving late in Kuala Lumpur.....take a taxi to an hotel....which was fully booked....we were so happy we could finaly relax and sit down....an our guesthouse (Garden Inn) in Bukit Lawang was the best place for it.
Close to the Bohorok river with steep mountains at each side with thick vegetation this was an absolutely great place. After a relaxed day we were ready to go on a 3 day trip in the jungle
We started the trip with a group of five travelers and our guide and someone to take the load! About 25 minutes walking and we couldn't continue our path, a green snake was blocking our way……and after not even one hour we were lucky to see our first orang utan! So great to see it….we must have stared at it for more than half an hour, so cool was it to look at it
Orang Utan with baby
So great to see these man like creatures...and so close some times no more than a couple meters away from us moving and behaving! Wel after seeing about 10 more every time we looked a shorter period but you just can't get enough of it!
The track it self was quite demanding, slippery steep paths up and down, but the rainforest was just amazing! First day we reached camp at about 16:00 and we could take a nice swim in the river!! After some good food and ginger tea everybody was willing to sleep at 21.00 since it was already dark for some hours and after a day of hiking we could use some rest.
Next day we split up after lunch, the other 3 travelers just did 2 days trip and we continued. While resting we spotted some rare monkey, the black gibbon on the other side of the valley, we went to find them…..that became a real jungle experience…walking in the jungle became even harder but the reward was great.
We could get as close as 3 meters from the monkeys and it was great to see how they moved across the jungle hanging on their arms!!
Tired after walking a long time we reached the big river, we had to go down in on an Indonesian raft (3
Our cook making delicious jungle food
2 nights on a hard jungle bed but the food they made was great innertubes tied together) and it was great going through the rapids like this
Our camp the second day was even more beautiful. Playing some card games with the guides it was a relaxed evening….and since the last day was just rafting back to our guest house..our muscles could relax after 2 days of good hiking
The rafting was great, I think wild water grade 3/4 and on a tube with just some poles to steer it was an adventurous trip!
Next day we relaxed, did some washing and ate pizza and went back to our guest house,
The people there were one of the friendliest i've ever met! We spend the night with Bintang (the Indonesian beer) and singing with the music they played on guitar!!
At 00:00 it was Anneke's birth day and ofcourse we started singing happy birthday and see had to blow some candles out!!
After sleeping we had to get up early and sit in busses whole day, our first bus got a flat tire twice and finaly at 16:00 we reached a ferry that would take us to an Island in Lake Toba,
Again a great place also dirt cheap 4 euro's a night and
sunset at our camp
Day 2 just after our short trip in the tubes looked like a dutch settlement since there was a big travelgroup having dinner at our place too!!
Met some nice people here and we've rented a motorbike for the day to drive around!
So far we are having a great time……later some more travel photo's
