My South Sulawesi Trip

From Makassar To Samarinda

If you don't have a lot of money and you're looking for same info about the cost of the life in Sulawesi, maybe this post could help you!!!

Makassar
- From Makassar Airport to town (25km) / Taxi 80.000Rp (no buses at night and dont know during the day)
Hitchhiking, I've found a free ride.
- Accomodation / 50.000Rp (2px, No toilet in the room and no breakfast) Don't remember the name, was in Chinatown. The room was very small and dirty but for one night..
- Food / Average street meal 5.000Rp
- City Transpot / Average for Pete Pete 3.000Rp
- From Makassar to Rantepao / Different buses daily (8h) from 50.000Rp to 75.000Rp
Hitchhiking, I've needed 3 days to reach Rantepao. Always from town I take a Pete Pete and I ask the driver to drop me off few km out of town, in the middle of nowhere but close to a small shop (for water and food). Slept 2 nights in local houses.

Rantepao
!!! All the villages of the area have a 10.000Rp fees !!!
- Accomodation / Wisma Maria 60.000Rp, must deal (2px, toilet and breakfast)
- Food / Average street meal 10/12.000Rp
Here the food is bit expensive compare other places in Indonesia, but only 500Rp for small fried food a piece
- City Transport / Average for Pete Pete 3.000Rp, 5.000Rp to Makale, must deal for further villages
- Internet / 5.000Rp 1h, 8.000Rp 2h
- From Rantepao to Pare Pare / Different buses daily (especially mourning) from 35.000 to 50.000Rp

Pare Pare
- Accomodation / Hotel Sisswa 35.000Rp (2px, no toilet and no breakfast), 40.000Rp (2px, toilet and no breakfast)
- Food / Average street meal 8.000Rp
Tips.. Buy some fresh fish at the night market and ask, at the restaurant in front the hotel, if they can cook it for you in the outside grill (gratis)!!!
- Internet / 7.000Rp 1h
- From Pare Pare to Samarinda (East Kalimantan) by boat (18/20h) / Every Saturday "Queen Soya II" Economy 165.000Rp in the ticket is included the breakfast but not the mattrest to sleep (10.000Rp)
Tips.. Buy the ticket directly on the boat 1or 2 days before; You could ask to stay in the boat for the few days before depart to Kalimantan.
!!! The Queen Soya Crew is great. Cause the high price accomodation in Samarinda, the owner of the boat (Rudy) give me the opportunity to sleep for 3 nights aboard.. plus they provide me food (breakfast, lunch and dinner), drinks and cigarettes.. all for free !!!
